This one came with the camera and really is remarkably good - versatility is key for this - hardly need to change lens at all. The only drawback is that it's quite slow, however bumping up the ISO combats this in all but the most difficult of situations. NB: Tulip hood no use for wide end of zoom when using on-board flash (don't use it with on-board flash is my tip)

I had this lens on my D300 and for what its worth in my opinion its punching well above its weight .

Its a great DX lens and worth a look at.Fairly wide at 18 works best @ 24mm and beyond

I would recommend it for starters
