A nice old beast that still hasn't been replaced properly in the line-up. The ergonomics are very good, everything just makes sense.
The 12 MP sensor is not very limiting, since the pixels are clean it is possible to interpolate the missing information and bring it up to about 16 MP if you have to print large.
A second memory card slot would have been nice, but I have never suffered from a corrupted card since I got it.
A minor irritation is the slowdown when using 14-bit raw, but the files are worth it in difficult lighting. You can do a lot more to the file before the histogram starts breaking up, compared to 12-bit.
Love taking portraits with this camera! Read the first 50 pages of the manual a year ago - hoping to finish the rest when I purchase a used one very soon. Can't wait to start shooting again!
Here it is, March 2020 now, and with everything now available, I just chose a D700 over what Nikon has available to date. I lucked into one used as a back up with less than 12,000 actuations in mint condition and all I can say so far is, this is one of a few Nikon cameras that are "Gold Standard"! I love this beast!
