Nikon D750 Announced

Nikon has just unveiled the D750, an advanced 24-megapixel FX-format DSLR positioned between the D610 and D810. We see it as a true D700 successor, as it has a more manageable sensor resolution than the D810 without most of the cost-reducing sacrifices from the D610. It also introduces a host of new features, such as a tilting screen, autofocus sensitivity to -3EV, and built-in wireless connectivity (all firsts in a Nikon FX DSLR). At the same time, it incorporates the EXPEED 4 processor, 51-point autofocus, and 91k-pixel metering system from the D4s flagship.

The pricing of the D750 is very competitive: $2296.95 for the body only, which is $400 more than the D610 and a whopping $1000 less than the D810 based on the current US prices.

Nikon D810 Announced

Nikon has just officially announced the Nikon D810, a high-resolution FX DSLR that will be replacing the D800/D800E duo launched in 2012.

While the D810 features the same 36.3-megapixel sensor resolution as the D800, it has received a host of improvements in many key areas, including still imaging, performance, video, and autofocus. Like the D800E, the D810's sensor does not include an low-pass filter. Also, the D810 has received the new EXPEED 4 image processing, which is 30% faster than the EXPEED 3 chip found in the D800/D800E. Thanks to this, the D810 is receiving many of the same enhancements that were rolled out in the D4s earlier this year, and then some!

The D810 will start shipping on July 17th and it is already available for pre-order at B&H for $3296.95- the same price as the D800E.

Nikon D4s Officially Announced

Nikon has just officially announced the Nikon D4s, the company's latest flagship DSLR which offers increased speed and improved performance compared to its predecessor, the D4. This professional-grade FX-format DSLR is built for the most demanding of photographers.

The hardware of the D4s is very similar to that of the D4: in fact, the D4s's body is nearly identical to that of the D4 with the exception of a few minor ergonomic improvements on the back of the camera. The D4s also has the same 16.2-megapixel sensor resolution. What has changed is the processor that lies at the heart of the camera: the D4s features Nikon's latest EXPEED 4 chip, which is up to 30% faster than the EXPEED 3. This leads to some very exciting enhancements which we discuss below.

The redesigned processor allows for faster continuous still shooting (11FPS w/AF and AE, up from 10FPS), better video quality, video framerates maxing out at 1080/60p rather than 1080/30p, 10x faster Ethernet connectivity (1Gbps, up from 100Mbps), and a longer battery life (3020 shots per charge, up from 2600).

And with the D4s, Nikon is setting another industry first: the camera's maximum expanded sensitivity has been increased to the equivalent of ISO 409,600 (Hi 4), higher than what any other DSLR currently available offers.

In preparation for the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show, which starts today in Las Vegas, Nikon has announced the D3300 DSLR, its new entry-level offering which will be replacing the D3200 from last year. A new AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm VRII kit lens was also launched alongside the D3300.

Nikon DF and Special Edition 50mm F1.8 Lens Ann...

Nikon has just announced the new Nikon DF, a retro-styled DSLR with a "de-crippled" mount that supports even Nikon's oldest F-mount lenses. The DF will optionally be available with an AF-S 50mm F1.8G Special Edition lens that matches its design.

Nikon Exhibits at Photo Plus in NYC

Nikon is currently exhibiting at the Photo Plus tradeshow in New York City, an anual event that's the largest photo industry exposition in the US. This year, Photo Plus will run until 4pm on Saturday, October 26th in the Javits Convention Center. It's free to attend as long as you register ahead of time!

Today, we stopped by the Nikon booth at the show to bring you photos of some of the new products that are on display! Nikon's booth can clearly been from the main entrance, and it dominates the show floor together with Canon and Sony. Read on for a picture tour of the exhibit!

Nikon D610 Now Shipping

We have just gotten word from B&H Photo that the new Nikon D610 is now in stock and ready to ship- just 11 days after it was announced!

The D610 body is available for $1999 and it addresses the known dust issue that plagued its predecessor (the D600). The D610 also has a number of minior improvements as outlined in our original announcement.

Nikon D5300 Announced

Today Nikon is empowering its DSLR lineup with the Nikon D5300, an evolution of the D5200 now featuring built-in Wi-Fi, GPS, and other enhancements. The D5300 is an upper entry-level DSLR that boasts numerous advanced features in a light and compact package. At its heart is a class-leading 24.2 megapixel APS-C sensor and an advanced 39-point autofocus system.

The D5300 is Nikon's first DSLR to natively support Wi-Fi. Thanks to this feature, smartphone and tablet users can instantly share photos from the camera and even control it remotely (yes, this means that the D5300 is able to transmit its live view image wirelessly to your device)! GPS information is also sent over for easy geotatting and status updates. Current iOS (iPhone, iPad) and Android devices will are supported; the required app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or from Google Play, respectively.

Like the D5200, the D5300 features an articulating "vari-angle" LCD screen. The D5300 has gotten a larger monitor, however: it now measures 3.2" and has a resolution of 1037k dots, up from 3.0"/921k dots. Nikon also promises that the D5300 will be able to shoot up to 100 more photos on a single battery charge (600 total).

AF-S Nikkor 58mm F1.4 Announced

Nikon has just officially announced the AF-S Nikkor 58mm F1.4, the newest member of the Nikon DSLR lens family!

At first sight, this lens may seem like nothing special, as its focal length and aperture specification is somewhat ordinary. The 58mm focal length corresponds to a normal field of view on FX and acts as a short tele on DX, very much like the current 50mm F1.4 and F1.8 primes.

What you might not know is that this lens is designed primarily with night photography in mind. Nikon claims that in addition to delivering a distortion-free image that's sharp from corner to corner, the new 58mm lens will exhibit virtually no sagittal coma flare (commonly known as lens flare) or vignetting (dark corners), even when wide-open. If what Nikon says is true, then moonscapes taken with this lens won't be plagued by ghosting: something that even their best prime lenses, such as the 35mm F1.4, aren't immune to. This also means that the 58mm will be enjoyed by demanding photographers who don't want to deal with aberrations or vignetting in post.

Nikon D610 Announced

Nikon has just announced the D610 FX format camera, an evolution of the D600 with only a handful of small improvements. The D610 features a newly-designed shutter mechanism that (hopefully) addresses the infamous build buildup issue that plagued the D600. The new shutter realizes a maximum burst framerate of 6FPS, up from the D600's 5.5FPS. In addition, the D610 features a new Qc (Quiet Continuous) shooting mode that enables quiet shooting at approximately 3FPS. Nikon also promises that the D610 will deliver improved white balance performance for portraiture and in artificial lighting. Finally, the D610 has gotten a larger buffer that can now store up to 100 basic JPEG images (51 fine).
