In Topic: Camera Website's

There aren't and the reason is Nikon's Maximum Value Policy (MVP). Anything you find below the MVP is either gray market or from non-authorized resellers. Stick to the well known stores like B&H, Adorama, ABT, etc

In Topic: Auto Focus Fine Tuning Suggestions - D7100

26 October 2013 - 07:47 AM

The DotTune method is fast, free, and doesn't rely on subjective evaluation of pictures sharpness. Here's a video on how to do it:

But, don't use manual focus as described in the video. Instead:

  • Configure your body for back-button focusing by setting "AF activation" to "AF-ON only".
  • After establishing critical focus of your AF target, leave the body and lens to set AF rather than switching to MF
  • During the DotTune VF range-discovery procedure (step 4 and 5 in the video), use a half-press of the shutter to turn on the VF confirmation.

You can read the details of why here:

In Topic: Virtual Horizon

18 October 2013 - 09:48 PM

I do use it often in my D7100. But remember that it only works like a level which is OK in most cases. But it might happen that either the horizon has a slope or the lines of what you are photographing are not level and that they would still look better if they align with the frame of the camera not the local gravity. It happens quite often.

In Topic: Getting Low

10 October 2013 - 04:28 PM

I often bring small plastic carpet or knees pads when I go for a shooting outside the studio. Going lower is a good option when framing is not interesting

I've bought cheap kneepads that velcro on, looks a bit dorky, but quite comfortable.

A camera with an articulated screen + LV (like D5000, D5100 or D5200) helps with that problem. I have a D5100 and I can take pictures with the camera almost touching the ground while just squatting.

In Topic: Backing Up Your Images

1) From SD card to main hard drive in my computer.
2) Backup new pictures from main hard drive to second hard drive, before reformatting SD card
3) Backup to Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3). It might be slow but what"s the hurry? And it's less than 10 cents/GB/month. It's always important to have an offsite backup in case of fire or other local disaster.
