#1323 The first D800 thread...

Posted by Joshua Lee on 01 October 2013 - 10:52 PM

For me is pretty easy.  I had a D70 and never happy with it much and hated the DX format as I had been shooting films a lot.  I wanted to buy the D700 but by the time that I get around seriously pull the trigger it was 2 years out and rumor that the "upgrade" will be out.  Then as we all know things got drag on for ... well.. years.  And the longer I waited the longer I didn't want to go back to D700 as the end of the tunnel "is" getting close.  So when Nikon announced D800, I quickly pre-ordered it the same day.  If I would have known D600 is coming out so quickly, I might have waited for it.  But can't really tell if I could choose D600 over it as I have never put my hand on one.

Is it a way to take still photo while I'm recording video with the D800?  If not, why use the dedicated video recording button to record the video instead of just using the shutter button?

#1306 Are you kidding me? 2mb per upload?

Posted by Joshua Lee on 01 October 2013 - 10:25 PM

I was super excited to learn that Nikon has a new forum for us Nikon friends to hang out and share our stuff.  I quickly signed up and the UI was pretty easy to use.  It looked pretty promising.  Then I uploaded my photo to the landscape contest and my jaw just dropped.  There is a 2 MB per photo upload limit.  Are you kidding me?  I brought my D800 for its incredible clarity of fine details it captured with high resolutions.  By the time I reduced my photo to fit your 2 MB limit, much of the details were lost. The photo became muddy and uninspiring.

Not to mention the 10MB account limit.  This is just a joke right?  Sites that allow text document submission have 2 MB limit and not for photo sharing.   Even an armature level DSLR these days produce files larger than 2 MB.

Here is a sample limit from another popular photo discussion forum for free accounts.

Upload Limits
  • JPEG image files only (for now)
  • Maximum of 20 MB or 20 megapixels in size
  • Maximum of 30,000 pixels along any axis
  • Free account limits
    • Maximum of 200 MB uploads per month (resets first of each month)
    • Maximum of 1,000 photos in total per account

Nikon, let's be real and do better than this!
