#40901 Show your bag!

Posted by Thumper on 25 July 2016 - 08:36 AM

I have multiple bags, and all of the the loadouts change for every occasion.  I do have a "daily" carry bag that I take with me on a regular basis (when I am in the cycle of taking my camera with me wherever I go, but even that changes frequently.  (I took one lens out of it this morning and dropped my 10.5mm fisheye lens in it today so that I pop over to a static display of an old steam engine a few blocks away from my office in order to have a submission for this month's song theme challenge.  Normally, I don't carry that lens in my "daily" bag).   Once I repack with my "normal" daily carry gear, I will snap a shot of the bag and contents.  But it may be different the next day/week.

#40596 Is this extortion or what?

Posted by Thumper on 12 July 2016 - 09:33 PM

That EULA (that most people never bother to read) pretty much says that you agree to whatever terms the manufacturer  decides to impose (even through updates).   Once you click "Okay" or "I Agree", they can do pretty much what ever they want.   But if you decline, you don't get the software at all.

Great set, and I like both of the shots.  I really dig the mood in the first one.

#40535 Blankenberge on Tri-X

Very nice series, Bart.

What are we seeing in image 1?   Image 2 and 6 look like some sort of a public park area, and maybe a skateboard area?

#40508 Off Brand? Really, Adam.

Posted by Thumper on 10 July 2016 - 11:57 AM

I don't think that it was meant to be a slam to other camera brands, but this is a Nikon forum.   It is just a logical name for an area for brands other than Nikon.

Very nice!  Well done.

#40281 What advice do you have for shooting a hot air balloon festival?

Posted by Thumper on 01 July 2016 - 09:55 AM

Your 24-70 will be good.  Do you have anything wider than that (to go along with it)?   Not trying to load you down with lenses since you already have 2 picked out, neither of which are light weight.   But an extra wide angle lens would make for some fun shots at a balloon festival.

#40231 Uhmmmm. Excuse Me?

Posted by Thumper on 30 June 2016 - 07:44 AM

Interesting discussion.   I have never been there, so I can only go on the information of those that have.  (Thank you for relaying some of your friend's experience there, dcbear).  Based on that, I can see why people might be reluctant to go there.   What I find curious is that one local person's response to the Olympics being there.  On one hand, I can see where it would be disruptive, to a degree, for local life there, but at the same time, I would think that they would welcome the tourism revenue.  (There is an assumption on my part that is most likely pure ignorance).

I remember when they announced Brazil as the host for this year's Olympics, and there seemed to be some controversy regarding it then.   I wonder what prompted the committee to select that location.  I assume (there it is again) that countries have to submit to be considered for hosting the games.

#40166 Code Red!

It is not as blown out as some of your previous red flower shots, so you are improving on those.  Keep at it!!

#39649 Why am I losing focus?

Posted by Thumper on 13 June 2016 - 06:57 PM

It sounds like you are shooting with the aperture open wide, which will make your depth of field more shallow.  Things on the same plane as what you are focused on will be in focus while other things will not, even if they do not appear (initially) to be on a different plane.

Stunning.   Really nice work.

#39492 AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm lens

Posted by Thumper on 09 June 2016 - 09:40 AM

The ambient temp may be 47C, but the body of the lens will likely be much hotter if it is a black coating.  I could see that causing problems with the internal components.  It would also explain why it performs better when it is covered.

Nope, looks great just like it is!    Perfect shot.

Thanks for the details!!

Love this set.  (I have been looking forward to seeing this since you said that you were going to that airshow).  Well done.  Thank you for sharing those.

Those Vampires are such cool planes.

Nice job on that.  I'd be interested to hear what your lighting setup was.  (Once you get moved in and settled, of course.  :D ). I like that shot.
