Hay Alden, unfortunately our gun laws are rather strict here in Scotland, if your out and about with a shotgun, your more than likely to be arrested. Of course there are organised grouse shooting events and such but it's a no no out on your own, unless your the land owner or your a games keeper.

It's a stunning part of Scotland, The Glencoe massacre happened on 13th February 1692, when the clan MacDonald were hunted down in the glen and killed.

#45976 going to tampa bay renaissance festival but have question on lenses

Posted by Ron on 06 February 2017 - 07:51 PM

I'm just guessing here but they likely want to keep ownership of any "professional grade" photos and the 12 inch rule is designed to help them do that. When you register with the marketing department they will likely have you sign an agreement to that effect. I know that at NASCAR racing events they automatically claim ownership of your images (except for personal use). It's printed right on the back of your ticket. You can take all the photos you want. You just can't sell them (without NASCAR's approval).

That said, and depending on what your intentions are and what other lenses you have at your disposal, I might be tempted to leave the 70-300 at home anyway. In a lot of these events, a normal to wide angle lens works better. For good light, I guess I would mount my AFS-18-35mm f/3.5-4.5(FX) on the camera and put my 24-120D f/3.5-5.6 in the bag... just in case.

If the light were poor I might take my 20mm f/1.8, my 50mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.8. The 20mm would probably be the lens I would use the most. The 85mm for portraits and the fifty would probably spend most of it's time in the bag.

PS... I just looked at their site. Yep, they want to keep the rights to ANY media resulting from their event.

Film & Photo Rights

All film rights are reserved. Commercial use of photos, videos or audio tapes made at the festival without written permission from the marketing department is strictly prohibited. Any cameras with lenses over 12 inches must have prior approval from the marketing department to shoot photos on the Bay Area Renaissance Festival grounds. If you have any questions, please call 813-983-0111.

Hi, I've been trying to come up with a logo, not only for my website but also something i'd be happy to have on a business card or social media.

I've come up with this. Any feedback much appreciated.

#45649 Frozen Pericnik Fall

Posted by bani12 on 30 January 2017 - 11:04 AM

It's been a while since I last post some images here. Past weekend I went to see the Pericnik fall, which was frozen due to low temperatures in January.

Here are some images from my trip.

#45628 My first wedding...

Posted by Wamason on 30 January 2017 - 01:25 AM

Let me set the scene... a relative of a friend of my wife was getting married... on New Year's Eve... outside... with a 150% chance of rain...

A day before the wedding my wife asks me if I'd consider taking some photos at the wedding. My knee jerk reaction to this was "absolutely not". I'm still learning, and nowhere near ready to step into something that serious... but after the guilt trip, and the argument of "if you don't do it they'll only have people using their phones to take pics", I agreed.

I met with the bride and groom, really nice country folk with no expectations. I made sure they stayed that way, explaining my lack of experience in this area and that this was a favor to them--not to expect anything near professional level. They were very appreciative and ecstatic to have someone using an actual camera to take photos for them.

The wedding was at 7pm, and I showed up at 3pm to with a small list of shots from some research. The wedding took place under a small barn and quite a few large and small tents. My equipment stayed dry but I ruined a good pair of shoes in the mud under the tents. The rain was torrential at times, but for the most part everyone stayed dry.

I shot with a D750, Nikon 24-120mm F4 lens, and a Yonguo 568ex speed light and Westcott umbrella on a stand, with which I've recently begun to experiment.

The wedding party was in good spirits but being country folk, they weren't the most cooperative when it came to posing. I fully realize that these images aren't even close to being professional quality, but I'd still love to get some C&C on how to improve.

Thanks!

#45526 Glencoe &Glen Etive

Posted by iNYONi on 27 January 2017 - 02:33 PM

Took a few days off work to give myself a little time with both my cameras (750 & 7100). Decided to take a 2 hour drive to Glencoe and Glen Etive. Sky was cloudless and a bit hazy so had to try and keep to the shadows.

Here are a few of my favs.

#45509 New Nikon User - Camera Model D750 - Tutorial questions

Posted by basudeb on 26 January 2017 - 06:46 PM

Thumper thanks - I know how to change the AF - C to AF - S and it beeps on AF - S but not on AF - C so as you said may be it is designed to be like that.

Merco - Excellent point on the bracketing and you really made my day. Yes that was the issue and i changed it and it works fine now and my AF - C confirmation has been resolved by Pebble.

Pebble - Great one. It does show up if it is locked.

Awesome guys!!

Have you tried contacting the Audubon society? I think they have a local chapter in Dallas.

#45483 New Nikon User - Camera Model D750 - Tutorial questions

Are you sure you haven't activated bracketing by mistake? That is the only thing I know of that lets the camera change aperture or exposure time in M mode without input from the user.

With AF-C, you are per default in release priority. You can change that to focus priority with  custom setting a1. I am not sure how that will work for you, but it might be worth a try. The trouble is that it will lock the shutter release unless you have focus confirmation.
