Sort of off topic: Can use ACR with my Nikon D300 as it supports RAW. Not so with the D600. Must convert 28MB raw files into DNG files and then I can open in CS3.

Do you need to install the latest version of ACR? ...surely it is compaitible with the D600?

Started using RAW about 3 years back and never looked back, except I will use jpegs if shooting a ton of pics in one session (e.g. social occasions) BUT even then RAW wins every time if lighting is getting tricky.
Takes a longer time to do processing however ACR also speeds up my post-work before the final fiddle in PShop

In Topic: Will Nikon ever upgrade my beloved D300s witha new Model D400 ?

ahh, lots of fellow "I want a D400" forum members. Gonna be a real big group I think, before Nikon FINALLY gets the D400 released.

Personally want a better buffer than the 7100's so would be quite happy for 16mb to allow the fps to come up to a 'pro' level. Unless they do that 1.3x crop thing with the D400 and provide more sports fps that way..?

...In the meanwhile we're all gonna be 'committed to Psychiatric care'  ...perhaps we'll be released at the same time as the D400 ?

That's a really good question.  It's hard to say but it might be that the "pro" APS-C DSLR concept is being phased out in favor of an "enthusiast" flagship (i.e. the D7100) and being replaced by an entry-level FF (the D600).

trouble is that AF system in the D600 ain't quite what we're after, even if the 5.5 fps is getting into the ballpark. Surely 'pro' DX  needs 6-8 fps and a nice big buffer  : )
