In Topic: Nikon D610 Announced

22 November 2013 - 08:24 PM

Tried the D610 with a few sample shots using Nikon's 50mm f1.8g lens at Henry's up in Canada. After a few shots. I was so impressed with the results I bought this prime lens for my D600 and D300. Sample shots of this lens on the D600 were much sharper than the images shot with the kit lens 24-85mm AFS F3.5-4.5 shot at 50mm.

So why do I want the D610? Damn I love this technology

PS haven't had any of the issues  with my D600 that some described as oil spots of dust on the sensor

Too many choices! Nikon added a full frame camera with a retro look. For about a thousand dollars less, a full frame Nikon can be had - D600 or D610. I gotta think that quality control choose the new model number D610 so as not to assimilate with the D600 and all its first generation shutter woes ( oil spots/sensor dust ). In the past Nikon would introduce a digital DX ie D70 then tweak it as a D70s. Not so with the D600...IMO

If I wanted to whip out my old Olympus Om1n and shoot film, then I don't need a digital retro-look. For now its a D600 and its 29mB raw picture files

Tony why not load the pictures using View NX and then import into LR. LR does not import the full size file....perform your edits then output to a folder as a jpeg. I like LR having used it for the one month trial. I look forward to getting a license since I find it much easier to use then Capture NX. ( the latter program slows my computer ) and I have a lightning fast quad core!

Check out these ratings comparisons. This may help you decide if its time to upgrade equipment. Years ago, I was using a 70-200mm VR lens from nikon. It had variable aperture. I used to use it on my Nikon D300 and found I could never get crisp shots of indoor sporting venues...ghosting and out of focus images. Gave away that lens to my son and bought a 70-200mm sigma f2.8 and started using a tripod and suddenly, more light meant better images. Since then I have started shooting with the full frame D600 and images are sharper than my D300 (in a variety of shooting environments) .

I used DxO mark when I was researching which camera to buy

Whether buying new or old Nikon lenses, one of the resources I use is Kenrockwell.com. This photographer has reviewed just about anything Nikon puts on the market. I read his review of the D600 with kit lens. That convinced me to buy it over the D800 (picture files way to large- also means faster PC)

Another site for checking out equipment is DxO Mark at
