#38909 Awesome Red Flower.

Posted by Tony on 19 May 2016 - 05:34 PM

I rather like this one myself. That's not to say it can't be improved so put the champagne bottle down.

Not knowing how much (or what type) of post processing you've done makes it's hard to make an absolute recommendation but I see too much noise. I think I would attack that a bit and maybe pull the reds in just a bit as well. I'd also get rid of those leaves at the bottom right corner.

This one looks like it would be a good image to use, ever so slightly, a glamor glow filter on... or maybe pull the clarity slider into the negative range a bit... maybe -20 to start. That would also help with the fringing.

PS:Oh, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with using a spray bottle of water. In fact, it's a pretty standard pro device.

I honestly do not believe I did any PP Editing on this one.  However, I could be wrong. I remember after uploading, I studied it for some time and decided to let it be.  Again, I could be wrong.  Well, thanks again for your constructive critiquing.  My comment regarding the water bottle was being facetious, so that is why I was sure to stamp a smiley face at the end.

Adios,

Tony

#38784 I don't believe this is noise, so what is it and how do I get rid of it?

Okay, I give up, where is the image?

thnx, Tony

#38748 D70 help!

Posted by Tony on 15 May 2016 - 01:49 PM

That's why I asked if the D70 had a USB port. But even if it does, it's OS may not support that type of triggering.

Of course one could always take the camera to a repair shop and ask them to replace the front IR port with a standard control port. That might work although the conversion would probably cost far more than the camera is worth. However, if the OP has already converted the camera to IR then it may end up being worth the expense.

Hi Ron,

I just checked my D70 and there is no USB port.  Tony

#38670 Very Yellow!

Posted by Tony on 12 May 2016 - 10:44 PM

Here is a photo of a yellow flower that was taken at the Annual Oregon Iris Festival.  I am aware that I cut off too much at the bottom and the top.  Seems make an enjoyable viewing experience.  Thanks for looking and please feel free to offer comments/suggestions.

#38620 Red Dawn.

Overall, I believe this turned out to be a nice looking photograph.  However, I do sense that it does not seem balanced.  But then again, neither does the person behind the camera.  I did increase contrast and then brought back the lighting and then did what I could to eliminate as much noise as possible.  Please feel free to offer any comments/suggestions.

Everybody, I would like for you to meet my new friend, Kashi.  Kashi is Tibetan for Auspicious.  She celebrated her 2nd birthday yesterday and truly loved being outdoors with so many folks paying her a lot of attention.  Including me, of course.  She is very friendly and such a sweet little gal.  Please enjoy and thanks so much for looking.

Thanks,

#38596 My Wild Irish Rose

Posted by Tony on 10 May 2016 - 09:29 AM

My wife and I took a drive down to Woodburn, Oregon for the annual Iris Festival.  Interestingly enough, this cluster of roses was right next to the Iris blooms.  I had to do a little sharpening and a lot of work with the noise issue.

Please feel free to offer any comments/suggestions.

Thanks,

#38412 Another Red Flower.

Posted by Tony on 05 May 2016 - 11:43 PM

This flower was in the same field as the first photo.  I did the best I could with PP Editing in regards to cloning and healing.

The sharpness you see is about as far as I could go without inviting a lot of white fringing.  As it is, I can see some white fringing, but not too bad.  Thanks for looking and please feel free to offer any comments/suggestions.

#38235 Nikon Refurbished Lenses--Worth it?

Posted by Tony on 27 April 2016 - 08:28 PM

Hi Bob,

I recently started to convert from Pentax to Nikon. To save some money, I purchased a refurbished AF-S 70-200mn F4 about two weeks ago. The order process was easy, the shipping was fast, and the lens was expertly packed. The 90 day warranty was the only downside. But, in my case, I have no qualms about purchasing even used lenses on eBay, as long as it can be returned to the seller, the seller is rated 99.8 or higher, and the lens is in near-mint condition and is priced significantly lower than a new model.

The comfort with the warranty situation is something only you can decide. In my case it was worth it to save $300.

Randy

That is a wise decision, because typically if anything goes awry with the item it is usually within the warranty period.  I have been a Nikon supporter for more years than I care to admit, however I have had nothing but good results with their refurbished products.  Seems to me that once the item is brought up to factory specs., there shouldn't be any issues down the road.  Regards, Tony

#38195 Camera freezes up.

Posted by Tony on 25 April 2016 - 06:55 PM

Yes, I think it is that your focus hasn't locked on. The "wirrrr" sound is the lens trying to focus and hitting the stops of the focal range.  Like Tbonz stated, you can override this "safety" feature which allows the shutter to fire even if focus isn't locked on. I have mine set that way, so I have to be careful about pressing the shutter button down too far so it won't fire off the shutter.  I use the back focus button a lot.  I have a couple of lenses that allow for manual focusing even in AF mode, so if the camera is giving me a fit about focus, I can take care of it on the fly by manually adjusting the focus without having to change from AF to full Manual mode.

To test your theory, I started to experiment a bit with the D70 and an AFNikkor 35~80 D 1:4~5.6 lens.  I have the camera on AF-S with another S inside a square.  I have a calendar with wide, black bordering.  When I attempted to auto focus on the white fields with days of the week, the lens just tried to beat itself up while hunting.  Thinking about what you had advised, I then focused on the heavy, black bordering and the auto-focus nailed it on the first attempt.  Now as an aside, I discovered an interesting situation in regards to adjusting meter modes.  When I want to adjust the meter mode, I can only do that when the shutter dial is on P for Program.  It will allow me to change to what ever mode I need in P, S, A, and M. For example, while in P setting, let's say the meter mode is on pattern/matrix, I can move the selector to S, A, and M and the pattern will not change.  However, if I change the mode to close-up, and need to use spot metering, I cannot change it to spot metering.  As another example, I can change the selector to P, change the metering to spot metering and then move the mode to close-up and as long as I do not touch the metering selector, it will stay on spot metering.  Actually, I can change the metering while in the P mode to whatever I need, and as long as I do not touch the meter adjustment button I can move the mode selector to any mode I want, and the metering will not change.  In other words, if I want to use close-up with spot metering, I would have to set the meter mode in the Program and move the selector to the flower or close-up mode.  Well, anyway thanks again for your assistance.

Regards,

Tony

Most of these will, I believe, run independently. Check the Google Nik site for more information.

Hi Ron and thanks again.  I did go ahead and download and install Google's Nik Collection.  Will post on how well it works.
