#544 Beginner DSLR....which basic model is the best...

Posted by Mark Win on 01 October 2013 - 11:30 AM

I'd recommend either the D3200 or D5100 as others have said.

You can compare the specs here:

http://www.nikonforu...nikon-d3200-r14

http://www.nikonforu...nikon-d5100-r12

The D5100 is in a higher class than the D3200, so if you plan on taking advantage of more advanced features in the future, it might be a good idea to start there.  Plus, it's a couple of years old now, which means that the prices are great.

The D3200 is a great camera and although it is classed as an 'entry level' Dlsr i can definatly say it stands up to others aimed at the Pro market...

#533 Raw or Jpeg

Posted by Mark Win on 01 October 2013 - 11:22 AM

I always go with jpg, I never have felt the need to go with RAW.

I would agree with you, ive never felt the need to change.. I suppose if we are shooting weddings etc some prefer 'raw' but Jpegs give such a good quality as well.. I think 'raw' is the best option if editing is in the mind of the photographer..

I always use rechargeable in my lighting etc as they hold a really good staying power and have never let me down.. For the cost they certainly outway using disposables

#464 What is the best mode to shoot on

Posted by Mark Win on 01 October 2013 - 10:54 AM

Im with you on that one Shail, Youtube offers so many answers to questions and mostly in a very good educational way, i still check out many users videos as we never stop learning or grabbing those tips that gives us more understanding of just what a camera can do, some people think it just takes a picture but todays cameras do so much more than just take standard pictures..

Im hoping myself to start taking some long exposure pictures of nighttime traffic, anyone any examples of their long exposure work id love to see them and with what settings

Guys please feel free to click my profile and add me as a friend,

im looking forward to sharing ideas and hope to

learn so much more with users tips and tricks

#444 What is the best mode to shoot on

Posted by Mark Win on 01 October 2013 - 10:42 AM

Sometimes users dont take their cameras of Auto modes simply because todays cameras do everytihng thats needed on Auto to get the required images, i myself love shooting in sports mode though i have been playing around with 'Bulb' Settings for some amazing night time pictures and recently started playing around with 'light painting''

#435 D3200 packs a punch

Posted by Mark Win on 01 October 2013 - 10:38 AM

I purchased my D3200 6 months ago as other fellow users said how good it was, and being an avid D3100 i was doubtful that the upgrade would increase that much except for the picture sizes, but boy was i pleased that i did..

As a photojournalist i mainly shoot with Sports mode on Burst as many of my stories are fast paced action like arrests etc so i was amazed at the pictures quality and the average 4 shots per second was more than enough to capture just what i required.

However that being said when i was taking it easy at home or out walking with the dogs i found the camera stands up to the best out there when capturing landscapes etc..

If you have this model, whats your thoughts on it and have you took it off Auto mode yet?

#427 Raw or Jpeg

Posted by Mark Win on 01 October 2013 - 10:31 AM

As a photojournalist i take pictures in their 1000's sometimes and although shooting 'RAW' gives higher advantages for edits i find shooting 'JPEG' stil gives me fantastic results and still quite editable and as i shoot mostly in  burst mode i find this the best options.

Im using a D3200..

WHats your choice of shooting format ?
