Nikkor 35mm f2 Ai-S focus ring isn't firm

26 February 2024 - 11:07 AM

Over the past year, I've purchased three Ai-S lenses for my F3: 35mm f2, 50mm f1.4, and 85mm f2. All are in excellent condition, but I notice the focusing ring on the 35mm lens is much easier to turn, not firm like the other two. It operates very smoothly, and there is no oil on the blades. I'm not really concerned about it, just wondering why. Thank you.

Y48 (K2) on top of L37c?

Aside from vignetting, can I stack a Y48 (K2) over an L37c with black and white film?

F3P Questions

22 March 2023 - 09:46 AM

I recently got an F3P in pretty much Mint condition and had a CLA/light seal replacement done. I had an F3HP for many years and loved it. I have two questions about the F3P.

The first is just curiosity; I've read three or four accounts that say when the power switch pin is positioned counter-clockwise, pointing over the red dot, the power is ON and the shutter is UNLOCKED; pushing the pin in and moving it clockwise, turns the power OFF, locking the shutter. Mine works just the opposite, like my F3HP did. It doesn't make any difference to me, and seems logical the way it is, red dot signaling OFF. I'm just wondering if others have found this?

Next. The ASA setting dial is stuck (this seems to be somewhat common) on 200 and doesn't budge. I can pull up on the locking ring, but not as far as I remember from my F3HP. When I pull up on the lock ring, the number dial wiggles a little, but it just won't unlock. From the few things I've read, people offer suggestions for workarounds, but no one seems to say what is actually wrong or how or if it can be fixed. It's not a huge issue because I'll probably only use 200 speed film. It would be nice to be able to use it because the camera is beautiful and everything else works fine. Any ideas? Thank you.

Hi, from New Jersey

Hi Everyone,

I just registered; however, I've been a faithful Nikon user since back in the 70's. I started with an S2 I inherited from my great uncle. That, unfortunately, was stolen, and I replaced it with an FM2, then went on to F3HP, D100, D200, D700, and my current Df and F3P. My current lens lineup: 24mm f2.8 Ai, 50mm f1.8 Ai, 35mm f2 AF-D, 50mm f1.4 AF-D, 85mm f1.4 AF-D, and 80-200mm f2.8 AF-D.

I recently got the F3P (aside from the S2, my others were new) and have a couple minor questions for the appropriate topic as soon as I find it. ;)

I'm looking forward to learning a great deal here. Happy to be aboard.
