I have a pair of yongnuo 560 IIIs.What lights were you using?
True color of the shoes is a little darker than the second photo, but not nearly as dark as the first.Much better with the hints of shadows. With the higher exposure overall, you lost some saturation. Which version is truer to the shoes themselves? Nice work!

Took your suggestions and did a reshoot (Still had everything set up so it was easy). Thoughts now?

By jagged edge, I assume you are meaning in the glass. There is no foil. The bottom is the reflection off the hardwood table and the background is a white foam board. The jagged edge is coming from the light playing through the cut crystal.
Yes, the shot still needs work. Thinking I am going to abandon this project and find something easier to start with. It was still a worthwhile exercise. Besides, it gave me a really good excuse to enjoy a glass of brandy afterwards.

OK! Sorry been a busy week so I have not really gotten to follow this thread. All I can say is WOW!!! This group took a photo that I probably would have trashed and came up with several versions that I would love to get copies of.
Jerry_ and I were on the same wave length with his panorama shot. See below.
Winner for the week has to be Nicole and the Godzilla shot. I love that one. Any change you would be willing to let me have a copy?

Here is my first take.
Cropped it a bit.
Bumped the exposure up almost a full stop.
Tweaked the white and black settings a bit.
Chewing on a few other ideas, but at least wanted to get something posted.

Shoot the way you normally would.
Focus and light still matter. Although light is adjustable, the less you mess with light post processing the better. Color shift (B&W conversions, white balance, ect...) don't matter and in fact are not even recorded in the file.

I went with more of a light and bright approach on this one. Adjusted the exposure by a full stop, played with the highlights and shadows, and then dropped the exposure on the leaf a little with the brush tool. Also added a bit of a vignette.
All work done in Lightroom 5
