#48504 Your Best Photo, Week Ending 14 May 2017

Posted by Mr_Leeman on 14 May 2017 - 12:56 AM

So I've been away for a while... because mainly of this new addition to my team! He turned 1 today!

I also moved house having spent 9 months at the in-laws whilst old property sold and we searched for a place to call home. We found our home set in the countryside surrounded by trails and lakes - so I expect to fill the walls with many wonderful pictures!

...and the forums!

I've had two new challanges this week. First was an orchestral concert in a church (horrible lighting), and my first ever engagement shoot - which I'm chuffed with.

They have also asked me to shoot their wedding next year... no pressure!

My next topic is underway... again they end up being a lot deeper than anticipated - which is good I think.

Lee congrats on the new additions to the family.

I have no photos from this week (I know this is last weeks thread). But I have been learning how to retouch my photos for the models I work with. I made this for a Facebook page cover photo but thought I'd share the before and after.

Thanks! I have to say I'm also a big Phlearn fan, and use the same technique. It's so easy yet the result is great. His tutorials are so well presented and easy to follow.

Fantastic! I just had a look and love it already. I look forward to seeing more. :) I actually really like the look of the photos and writing portion--very fresh and appealing. The theme is wonderful and attractive--I really like the callouts. I think Peter is correct that the menus take away from the content a bit. On my screen, they take up more than half of my browser space. Perhaps if you were to just narrow the sidebar so that it wasn't quite so wide... That being said, I looked at it on my phone as well, and the mobile version looks pretty darn good.

Well, you've inspired me. I have a blog on my website, but I don't update it very often--but today the day will not end without an update! I may need to find a fresh new theme as well... I really like yours. :)

Wow, great - thanks Nicole!

I love the styling of yours, really makes your images stand out!

Yes it's odd, on mobile it looks really good, but in browser not so much... will have a play.

Thanks Peter, I'm not 100% on the theme myself yet. So nice to get confirmation it's not right yet.

Had a quick glance at yours, nice and clean! Will enjoy reading some of your articles, the fountian of knowlege you are!

Been so busy lately i've not shared anything for what feels like an age. Had a new toy recently and this is the first time I've been out with purpose and had an end goal in mind. As always... it's the boy - but I would like to share with you all he is going to be a big brother! His little companion should land with us next May.

It's amaizing what you can find on your doorstep as it were. I have been walking part the way to work recently and my route takes me past a small wooded area with a stream - which I knew nothing about. This weekend was the first chance to get out and shoot there. I'm very pleased with the outcome. The new toy is a D600, very impressive!

And while we were out we took advantage of the falling leaves.

Hope to be more regular again, if time permits of course.

Hi Peter, I have heard good things about http://spyder.datacolor.com/products/ although I have some research to do as it's a lot deeper than I thought. I like the idea of profiling the camera. Hmmm, I've opened pandoras box!

I've missed a few weeks as I've been so busy with life... and work. Been lucky enough to have some gret photo ops though recently, including a wedding... here are a couple from the few thousand I took.

#30615 Editing exercise, week ending March 29 2015

Posted by Mr_Leeman on 30 March 2015 - 06:01 AM

I always love how different people interpret an image. I like them all in their own right, but drawn particularly to Jerry's B&W, which I avoided due to the colours, however it makes it a simpler version. I also like dcBear's take, whith muted colours and the bokeh. Great efforts all round!

My take was to really push the fairy tale idea, so did minor tweaks in lightroom to the shadows and highlights. I also added some complimentry colours to the highlights and shadows. Then of to PS and cloned out the distracting twigs in the foreground as well as the stump. I added in some dust particles to enhance the woodland feel and also introduced some rays of sunlight from the top right corner, hoping they are subtle enough not to distract. I added a flare also in the top right. As Peter, I also lightened the face as it was getting a little lost.
