#22938 Liability Insurance

Posted by KurtCopeland on 11 June 2014 - 05:24 PM

Thanks again, all, for the great advice. I have been in contact with the SBA and will be getting more "local" specifics concerning what is actually required. I certainly do appreciate all of your perspectives on what also really makes sense to have. As always, I'm glad I asked here in the forums. :)

#22875 Liability Insurance

Thanks for the responses. To answer the type of business question, I was thinking about shooting real estate for homeowners trying to sell their homes. It would involve going to the client's home and everything that entails. I'm thinking some liability insurance would probably be a good idea.

I am still far away from submitting an actual business plan. Just trying to think about the details.

Once the forum grows a bit more I'll be adding more sections.  For now, this would be the appropriate forum:

WTH...I have even posted in this forum myself.

Not only am I blind but my memory is going as well.

Thanks, everyone, for the information!

I've just been watching some interesting videos on LR and PS on Lynda.com and believe I'm going to have to subscribe.

#19654 Professional Photography Courses

Here's a link: http://project52pros.com

And I just have to say there is so much free or inexpensive education out there--YouTube, lynda.com, kelbyone.com…so much is available that it seems a shame to spend hard-earned money where you may not get the best ROI.

Nicole,

Thanks for sharing that link! I do agree with you after having searched around a bit more. The online photo courses I have come across seem at least partially redundant or impertinent and definitely not worth the cost. Project 52 seems as it might be the best experience and bang-for-the-buck I have seen so far.

#19553 Professional Photography Courses

Posted by KurtCopeland on 20 April 2014 - 06:40 PM

I would like feedback from any and all of you concerning several aspects of online professional photography courses. A few minutes "research" on the internet show me three potential candidates:

(edit: after reading more about the New York Institute of Photography, I have all but eliminated this one from the list of possibilities. It appears from the reviews that much of their course is extremely outdated. If anyone knows otherwise, please let me know.)

New York Institute of Photography

http://www.nyip.edu

The Photography Institute

http://www.thephotographyinstitute.com

   and

The Art Institute

http://visit.artinstitutes.edu/

I am pushing forty-five and worked in photography only as a secondary job from time to time at most. I have my experience in a few processing labs, some stuff in college (I did not major in photography) and various little excursions over the years. Nothing big.

I am looking to work as a freelance photographer in my spare time and gain practical experience working assignments for local papers, websites, newsletters and almost anyone who would hire me. (I want to keep my current non-photography job and just do this on weekends and evenings.) Working on developing it into something I can do after retirement from my current job.

What do you think of the online courses linked above?

I would love to take courses in person but think the online courses are my best bet for my schedule and budget.

Thoughts?

Hey! Until you capture a shot of an actual eagle, you can put up a silhouette of an eagle. :D

I have two Minolta X-370's in my garage. I'll bet their are millions more like them stored in various nooks and crannies around the world.
