i very carefully bent the arm back to the position shown in your photos and the camera now fires and works at all aperture settings per normal

thank you, that is very helpful

 

the lens is clean and free of mechanical defects to the best of my knowledge

 

but the photo that you attached would seem to indicate that the 'camera actuation arm' on my camera is bent

 

thank you for the attached phots in your post it makes things very clear
