Coolpix P500 & telescopes

23 September 2021 - 08:42 PM

My first camera was a Nikon EM. I would sometimes mount it to a tripod (which I still have) and attach the cable release it. Then I'd try to take night shots. I actually got pretty good, both with the standard 50mm lens and a 80 - 300mm zoom. With my Coolpix P500 I can go to 36x zoom but not swap lens. I'd like to use it with a telescope. Any suggestions how to go about this?

Use Coolpix P500 with telescope

We have a Coolpix P500. We bought it first because it's a Nikon and second because of the zoom - 36x.

My first Nikon was an EM. What I liked about the EM was the interchangeable lens, and the cable release for the shutter. I'd install a 80 - 300mm zoom, put the camera on the tripod, connect the cable release, and take night pictures of the sky. I got fairly good at it, if I do say so myself.

So, here's my question. (Yes, finally.) Is there any way to connect a P500 to a telescope? Nothing fancy. Something from Celestron I imagine.

Thank you.
