I remember it being in the movie mode when it couldn't autofocus so I switched it over to camera mode and took the few photos after. I tried it in live view mode earlier and the photos it took are back to the regular 3x2 ratio. Odd.

200 frames would be perfect(i assume that's JPEG though). I am working with ~20 now(Raw) on my D600 and it's limiting. It's good to know you never ran into an issue shooting a sporting event. It makes me hopeful for birding. Thanks, Russ.

I'm too short to be a basketball fan! Love the shot though! OK...I admit I enjoy college basketball and even enjoy shooting some high school basketball, but all in all, its behind (in no particular order) football, hockey, baseball, soccer, lacrosse as far as team sports go for me!

I agree Russ! It is a difficult balance...I have provided images (with credit) and had that turn into paid opportunities and I've done the same only to have them search out another free source if I ask for money...in both cases however, I was doing the photography in support of the local school and did make some money from the sale of individual photos via their being posted to my site or a web magazine previous to their requests...

Well, been on the road and finally got the chance to (a) edit and ( post from some photos I shot last week. Long story short, had a chance to take some photos (unofficially) of the Virginia State Little League Majors Softball Tournament. Unofficially meaning I did not have field or dugout access and since they had hired someone to shoot, I tried to stay out of their way. A friend's daughter was playing in the tourney so showed up to watch their game and get some photos of their team. My favorite of our friend's daughter:
D600, ISO 1600, 200-400 at 400mm, f4, 1/2000
I had to include one action - shot through fence from behind home plate:
D600, ISO 800, 70-200 at 195mm, f2.8, 1/2000
I'll try to get something in on time this week depending on how the rest of the travel works out!

D7100 with Sigma f5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM 150-500mm,
ISO100, f22, 1/30sec, 300mm
Trying to achieve 2 things; the surfer with dynamic movement with an artistic feel. In comparison to the normal surf shots I capture with movement frozen and crystal clear colour.

Strange, but getting another in early! I still have more shooting to go this week, but I think I'm going to have a tough time beating one of these two.
First from baseball on Monday night...
D600, 200-400 at 200mm, ISO 180, 1/1000, f4
The runner was picked off second base, so he took off for third. You can see the tag in the photo, but a frame or two later, he lost the ball from his glove as it hit the ground. Runner was safe at third.
Second from lacrosse on Tuesday night...
D600, 200-400 at 200mm, ISO 3200, 1/1000, f4
Lacrosse is a rough sport, especially on those who take a close shot on goal...yes, this one was a penalty - you can't hit them in the head!
Russ - nice shot! I hope to be shooting some rugby this weekend!

Wife took this one, but in my opinion, it is far better than anything I have taken.
D60
f/4.8
Iso 400
1/640 sec
35 mm (on a 18-55mm lens)
Eagle
PS. This one and a couple others are also loaded in the critique section as well. Would love to hear your thoughts.
