Hi guys - thanks for the various comments.

 

The main reason it's shot portrait is that, just to the right (out of shot) was a huge pile of pedalo's which sort of screwed the shot if I'd left them in. The dune extended off to the left so not much interest there, so framed it portrait instead.

 

Not too much time to mess about as the light was going fairly quickly

Stas - taken with D300s and either Nikon 300mm f4 or Tokina 70-135mm f2.8; continuous focus mode and plenty of practice :D

D300s user - can't beat using back button AF-On button especially on sports/moving images - once you start you'll wonder how you ever managed without!

You might want to try a portrait crop closer in to the subject...

Yep, I'd agree with this - maybe keep the person in the background to give some DoF?

Lovely shot and great processing - I like the use of the crowd at the bottom the image to give some scale/perspective - very nice!
