Infrared photos on art

21 February 2021 - 09:53 AM

Hi all of you out there in Nikonland. I am absolutely a greenhorn in the field of advanced technical photography. I have a problem. and need all the help and advice I can get. The story is this: I have a Nikon D 3100 camera with a Nikon DX  AF-S Nikor 18-55 mm lens. I want to use this camera for Infrared photography. I have a IR filter that can be placed in front of the lens. I want to use the camera and the IR to inspect an old 17 century painting, so the target will not move at all. If I understand it correctly, To make photos with the IR filter on the lens I will need long exposure times The question is. How do I set long exposure times on the camera. ? And, what exposure time do you recommend as a starting point ?  Best regards to all of you :-)
