I don't know of any zoom — not even any of mine — that will be
in focus while operating the zoom unless…

The AF is configured to be continuous and I use BBF. I don't know
the P1000, does it have a BBF option?


Yeah, no BBF.

P1k is my first camera, so I don't know about other lenses. But before this issue, I had no trouble zooming fully in to the subject, manual focus, then zoom back out fully, begin recording video, begin slow zoom fully to subject which remained in focus.

Now, as mentioned, focus shifts only slightly off upon zooming, leading me to believe some mechanism in the lense may have minor damage.
