Why is it not possible to darken highlights or unclip them. but you CAN brighten shadow...

Why is it not possible to darken highlights or unclip them. but you CAN brighten shadows easily in photos and reveal hidden details (Maybe noisy. but shadows dont get clipped hard like highlights do in photos)

Why is that?

why can you take a raw photo and brighten up the shadows so dramatically. but if highlights are clipped. theres very little to nothing you can do at all.

Why is noise always in the dark parts of images more than the light?

Is there any kind of fancy of AI deep learning image mainipulation software that can even moderately recover clipped highlights?

Is there any way to make a camera sensor act in reverse so noise would be in the bright parts of the image instead of the dark shadows.. and just read the image in reverse so that its normal way but noise happens in highlights instead of shadows? or is that just not physically possible?

soft video sharpening video nikon p500

14 March 2021 - 12:22 PM

Whats the best FREE software that can sharpen videos without excessive "halo' artifacts. and without sharpening the noise too much?

video looks pretty soft with my p500. especially in bright daylight because it automatically stops the lens down which causes a significant noticable diffraction blur effect.

its also cropped in when shooting video so that makes it even more noticable.

also none of the optimize image options has any effect in video mode with the camera switched to P setting when recording video.

in the manual it says it does but i tried many times to change the options and take videos and compare side by side. No difference changing the sharpening settings from off to max. or contrast or saturation either.

the ONLY optimize image setting that does anything is black and white mode. but thats useless really. and still sharpness doesnt have any effect there either

its like it ignores those settings in video mode. so I cant just turn up or down the sharpness setting in the camera.

nikon p500 Weird "glitch" optical stabilization getting stuck "on" even...

04 March 2021 - 02:35 AM

i somehow triggered it to get stuck on after letting go of half press shutter button.

I dont know how it got stuck on im curious and want to know.

it also doesnt change stabilization amount with focal length if im recording video. so it seems to just be stuck at stabilization for like 50mm even if im at 4mm and it makes it wobble and judder weirdly from being wrong stabilization amount for the focal length

if i keep it the same in video recording without zooming it makes video way smoother.

What in the world?

Did a random cosmic ray strike my camera at the exact moment i unpressed the shutter button causing stabilization to stay latched somehow?

Which is better or more appealing to see. a noisy sharp image or blurry one?

22 February 2021 - 07:01 PM

A noisy sharp image without any motion blur with a shorter shutter speed and higher iso

or a somewhat blurry but noise-free image. with a longer shutter speed and lower iso.

I can't decide which is better. The noise is obviously distracting and loses details. but the image having a shorter shutter speed makes the image sharper.

but a longer shutter speed makes the image more blurry from motion blur. even if it has lower noise.

I cant decide which is the better tradeoff.
