D5600 video auto focus

11 August 2021 - 10:01 AM

I hope this is in the correct forum.

I have played around a bit trying to take some video and have a problem with focus. I found a short clip from Nikon on the set up. Lens set to VR and auto focus. Camera set to Program, Focus AF-A, focus mode normal, Focus area auto. They suggested to set ISO to auto. I have tried various settings also with the same result. I am aware that this is not the best camera for video but I should get some reasonable results with it.

My problem is when I move the camera the lens will not auto focus on the subject. I thought it might be the lens but all my lenses do the same thing. All are DX.

18-55mm 1:35-5.6G II AF-S

35mm 1:1.8G AF-S

40mm 1:2.8G Micro AF-S  ---- came as a set for less that $500.00 (I like this thing)

10-20m 1:4.5-5.6G AF-P   ---- second part of the set

18-200mm 1:35-5.6G II ED AF-S

Should the lens auto focus when moving from one subject to another where the distance has changed? If I tap the screen it will come into focus without any problems. I can use manual focus without any problems.
