Thanks Timbali, the light meter went out on my old FTN and no one could fix it. Now you can buy FTN's on ebay pretty reasonable (if you can find one with a working meter), I think I paid around 2 grand for mine back in the 70's. When I read the 5300 would except F mounts I was all over it.

I am also stuck on the same question

I got the 5300 because it was in my price range. I wanted a camera I could learn on that I could afford. If I was really knowledgeable about photography and wanted to make some money at it, I would have gone with the 7100 or higher. There's a lot to learn to be good enough to say you know it all. For now I just wanted a good camera that I can fun with while learning.
