#28584 D7100 to D750 worth it?

Posted by pebbleheed on 18 November 2014 - 01:24 AM

I would stick with my
d7100 if I could get similar isolation and DOF effects at wider angles but I've not managed it so far and I'm don't think I will.

We don't have Black Friday in the UK sadly. Not like the us does anyway.

I'm going to wait a while anyway. I was going to get it on credit but I'll get some cash together first.

I'll see what happens over the next few weeks.

#25931 First time looking for critique

Posted by pebbleheed on 27 August 2014 - 07:57 AM

I'm quite chuffed with how this photo turned out over the weekend. So I thought I'd throw it in for my first request for critique to see where I could have done better.

#25320 Setting the center point

Cindy, I am genuinely curious about the awards you have won. Not to try and challenge you, but I don't know many photographers who like myself aren't just hobbyist level. I'd be keen to see the winning photographs if you could link to the competitions and the photos in question please?

I'm always interested in looking at the work of others as it helps me learn and develop myself.

Also, I left a long line of canon equipment to go to nikon. It was different at first, but since then I'd never buy canon again. My D7100 is the best camera I've ever owned and I actually prefer the way it works to canon now.

Things work differently but when you learn the differences nikon are great in my opinion. Having said that, it's all down to personal preference.

#21435 Do more pixels give me less flexibility?

That's down to you and your ability I guess.

I use my 300 with VC handheld and I have no issues.

There's a lot of DX glass about and no sign of the market drying up. If nikon withdrew support for their DX stuff you'd have a hell of a lot of annoyed people with a lot of investment wasted.

I may get one in my bag for other types of photography though. But on street it would give the game away on candid work 😄

#17124 D5300 or D7100?

Posted by pebbleheed on 06 March 2014 - 06:57 PM

Well I'm loving the 7100. A few days in and it feels like a million miles away from the 5300.

Images are pretty much the same, but the 7100 is a much more enjoyable experience to use and the controls are awesome. It also certainly has a noticeably better focusing system.

The 5300 was great, the 7100 is certainly better though. It's not as easy to pick up and just use, but with a little practice the extra control and options are very much appreciated.

#16931 What computer do you use?

Posted by pebbleheed on 03 March 2014 - 01:58 PM

While the computer hardware is obviously important, it's often wasted by a poor choice of screen. All the power in the world is overshadowed by a cheap or low quality monitor.

I'm lucky as the imac monitors are very good. But do people building their own kit put effort in to decent displays?

Posted Imageok, I've spent about two minutes testing it in the spare room. I LOVE IT!

Not had chance to put it through it's paces yet but it certainly feels more fun than the D5300 which in itself was a great camera.

It's quicker at shooting and focussing which is something I was looking for.

I've reserved a D7100 for tomorrow. Unless I change my mind between now and tomorrow morning I'll be the owner of a D7100 tomorrow.

Also sold my D5300 for £20 less than I bought it for. Happy with that :D

Imac.

Went from MacBook Pro to windows 8.1 vaio and back to apple with the imac in the last couple of days.

Of the three the imac is best for me. Lovely large screen, fantastic display, very quick and an interface that feels like the whole thing is designed for photographers.

I opted for the large touchpad instead of a mouse - fantastic decision. Very accurate and great for editing.

The MBP and the imac are close in features but the imac wins for me due to bigger display, faster and more comfy to use.

#15031 Clean a camera bag, how?

Posted by pebbleheed on 02 February 2014 - 03:08 PM

I left neutral feedback for them. I've also logged a case with eBay for a full return and refund. The seller isn't happy but appears to be agreeing so far.

I picked up another bag, the same one, for less today in mint condition.

#13604 D5300 or D7100?

Posted by pebbleheed on 15 January 2014 - 06:22 AM

I was in this dilemma recently. The 7100 or the 5300.

I'm moving over from owning a canon 550D and 650D. Sold all my canon kit and decided to look at Nikon.

I liked the idea of the 7100 because it was the 'better' camera in that it's a higher spec than the 5300. But with that comes a higher price.

I had a limited budget and being in the UK I tend to get ripped off with camera prices. I could however afford either model.

I watched many reviews, read lots of forums and carried out plenty of other research over a week or so.

I was just about to hit pay on my 7100 when I had a rethink. I couldn't justify spending as much on the 7100 as I'm taking my family on holiday soon. In addition to that the slightly smaller size of the 5300 appealed to me as did the wifi option.

I appreciate that the 7100 is without a doubt the better camera on paper, but in terms of my needs and use the 5300 made more sense and saved some cash for other areas of my life.

I guess if you can afford the 7100 and it does what you want then it's the one to go for, but the 5300 doesn't seem too bad a compromise if cash is an issue. Some may not need the 7100 spec and may find a smaller still feature rich camera is better for them. After all you wouldn't buy a Ferrari to do a school run.

Hopefully I won't regret my 5300 when it arrives tomorrow. I think it will be a step up from the 650D and I'm looking forward to having a play with it.
