Greetings, an undocumented P900 error prompted me to join

17 December 2019 - 12:16 PM

Greetings everyone,

Good to be at the forum,

my story is that a camera error brought me here, this is the first time that I get an error message on a camera that is not documented in the manual, so I thought I could bounce that against more knowledgeable people than me in the field as I am certainly no camera expert.

Just because of its curiosity, I will retype the bulk of the issue here in case anyone has seen this before.

When I turn on this P900 Coolpix I am getting the following message on the screen:

"Mode dial is not in the proper position"

and the camera does not proceed to boot.

Physically, the dial is in the correct position, optical and a brief tactile inspection does not show anything out of the ordinary as the dial sounds like it clicks in place properly.

Note that this is an error message undocumented in the camera's manual from the manufacturer's website.

The camera does not appear to have any humidity or fogging, however since this happened after a humid night

for now I am leaving it as open as possible: taking out the battery and leaving the battery slot open, raising the flash, and opening the screen to give it a chance to dry from any residual moisture.

Note that the camera did boot once after that humid night, but immediately after a reboot I got this message.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance, and thank you for having me in the forum,
