In Topic: Comparable Models to the D700?

Since the D700 does not do video you can be quite certain with that model...

I have bought some lenses from KEH, they have been nice to do business with.

I never tried to shoot video with it so I never realized it didn't have that capability. ha! Thanks for the info!

Lots of shops sell used gear.  If you have a local store you deal with, I'd start by talking to them.  Not sure where you're located in the US, but I've had good luck dealing with Calumet which has shops scattered across the US and some outside the US.  If you have one near by, check them out.  I've also bought used gear from other sources.  Nothing against them and I've not had a problem with anything I've bought used, but I've developed a good relationship with the folks at Calumet, so I deal with them when I can.  They do online / phone as well, but not sure how they deal with used gear that way.

I know there are some online dealers that sell used as well.  Most rate the gear and provide the rating and the scale for you to review.  If you can afford one of the higher rated, you should be in good shape.

I can't tell you about coverage other than I expect there would be some sort of a return period for you to test it out.  You might want to contact a few places and see what they have to say.  I expect some would offer a method for coverage...

I'm in Wisconsin - Are there more trusted places online you know of for used gear? My husband just gave me cash today for my birthday to put towards a camera which was a total surprise to me!  I can afford to get a D700 body, batteries, and memo cards. Will most likely have to wait on a lens. I saw on eBay for used bodies they list the shutter count - is there a way to tell if they shot a lot of video with it.  I want to make sure it was only used for taking pictures...

If someone were to ever give me a  Nikon D700 or D610, I would send them photographs every week of my best work I took that week to say thank you. One day :)

How about searching out a D700 on the used market?

I'll suggest the same for whatever lenses you'd like to add...

I was thinking about that, but I'm not sure where the best place would be to purchase it from.  If I buy it used how can I get coverage for it if something doesn't work or breaks? Any suggestions? Thanks!
