Shadows around images

When I take portraits using my Nikon D7100 and SB700 Flash there are shadows around the figures in the image when I download. What can I do to eliminate this.

Shadows around images

When I take portraits using my Nikon D7100 and SB700 Flash there are shadows around the figures in the image when I download. What can I do to eliminate this.

I am using a SB700 Speedlight and prior to taking the image the it flashes 3 times. How can I remove this so it will only flash when the actual picture is taken
