#83335 Two favorite lenses

Posted by daveFM2 on 11 June 2023 - 12:31 PM

They are both good choices as favourite lenses.
What versions/revisions are they?
Is the 50/1.2 Ai or Ais?
Is the micronikkor pre- or post 2005? From 2006 onwards, it got a more modern, synthetic grease that doesn't break down and gum up the aperture with age. These serials start at 800001. There might have been a running change from as early as 700001, but this is a point the Nikon historians love to debate.

. The 50 f1.2 is AI 414xxx, the 55 is a super smooth AIS 289xxx. Used on an FE2, and a FM2n. I use Braczko’s Complete Nikon System 2000 for serial reference.

#83304 Two favorite lenses

I have several Nikon lenses, but my two favorite are in the 50 to 55 reach. Talking about my 50 f1.2 for challenging light, and needed speed. My other favorite is my 55 f2.8 micro. Not so fast, but image quality is superb. Regarded as one of the best of best in the Nikon lineup.

#83303 Fuji Velvia 50

Posted by daveFM2 on 09 June 2023 - 07:50 PM

Just received 5 rolls of 36 exposure Fuji Velvia, use by date of 8/24. I’ve used Velvia 50 since the demise of Kodachrome 25 and 64. Sourced from B & H NYC, no I don’t work for them but been a customer since the 1980’s.

#74903 Back when they advertized on T.V.

Posted by daveFM2 on 23 August 2021 - 10:50 AM

I'm sitting trying to remember if I ever saw any camera commercials on T.V. The answer is no, of course I'm only 78 so I may be too young. One of the earliest non-camera commercials I remember from the very early 50's or sooner was the dancing legs in a Phillip Morris cigarette ad. The dancer was concealed in a replica of a pack of Phillip Morris. All you could see were some fabulous legs.

Just found a new in the wrapper, box, warranty card, hood, a 1 Nikkor 32 f 1.2. This will be the perfect complement to my existing lens lineup for my J 5.

#71305 Nikon moving to Thailand

Nikon announced that it will be moving production facilities to Thailand. The reason cited was labor costs.

#69478 Adding an FE-2

Posted by daveFM2 on 15 August 2020 - 11:55 AM

You will either love or hate the match-needle meter in the FE-2. I very much prefer the FE-2 meter over the FM-2 one.
Make sure to carry spare batteries as the shutter will only operate on B and X speeds with a dead battery.
The FE-2 has the same Ai coupling as the F3 and F4, where you can flip the prong away to use stop-down metering with unmodified pre-Ai lenses. I am not sure if the FM-2 had this feature.

Here’s the FE-2 I bought. First impressions re all favorable.bd649364a89e04ee46c598cc56826bb4.jpg083894d333455893f89bcd0f16740b35.jpgb95e6caf471d6c36c16383a4656a595b.jpg92fd4120bad18feeb02472b8c6b3d2f8.jpg00f1a607cfb7056aa10d304b354969ae.jpg

#65346 Please suggest a film camera

Posted by daveFM2 on 15 November 2019 - 10:50 AM

I just returned to film though a purchase,on eBay, of a FM2n. Immaculate condition inside and out looks like it just came out of the box. This camera features a 1/4000 shutter speed, the only battery is for the light meter and they are widely available. It is a simple, no frills with only the shutter speed and aperture to set.
