Hello from British Columbia, Canada!

Hello all, me and my humble d3400 greet you from Canada's rainforest province. I look forward to mingling with my fellow Nikon teammates, 3 years in and still so much to learn. πŸ“ΈπŸ“–

Nikon lens focus not working

16 August 2019 - 11:24 PM

3 years ago I bought a Nikon d3400, it came with an AF-P 18-55mm lens, and an AF-S 55-200mm lens. Three years, no bugs, no problems.
Today I was hiking up to a waterfall, taking photos. Get to the top, take one photo, then the camera stops taking pictures.
I played around with it, and it seems it won't take a picture at all when in autofocus. When I switch it to manual it takes a photo, but it is blurry, and I can not adjust the focus. I can also hear a clicking and grinding when I rotate the lens between the 35 and 24 mm marks.
The 55-200mm lens works just fine, so I'm fairly certain it's not the camera body.
(Also, if I rotate the lens and focus ring together while half pressing the shutter, it takes a blurry photo in auto.)

Can someone please help me? 😁
