#77709 Who called the cormorant?

Posted by bluzman on 25 February 2022 - 06:59 PM

One of my favorite birds to photograph here in North Texas. These are double crested cormorants. Since yours looks like it was photographed near the ocean, I'm guessing it may be a pelagic cormorant.

Yes, I did say rifle racks.  Family's took their rifles to church through the early 1800's for protection and a chance to shoot game for the table.

Not necessarily a bad idea these days either.

Wasn't that Buttons and Bows, or something?

Photographing a can if Spam was fitting for the weekend.  I went to a gun show yesterday with my brother, took a D700 with a 80-200mm f2.8 along in case any interesting scenery along the way.  Lots of nice building begging to have a picture taken, but my cautious brother wouldn't stop for fear of getting caught in a predicted snow squall.  On the way back I saw a rail road bridge that looked like it hadn't been in use since WWII and would probably make an award winning photo.  Nope wouldn't stop.  Now I'm working on finding it on a map to go back to it on a nice day.  SPAM seems right for the day.

Sounds like a couple of my exes. Yikes!

I found it on the map, (satellite view) it's farther away than I thought, and like you just said, looks like there's no place safe to stop within a reasonable walk.

Which just makes it worth doing anyway!

Thanks for the comment. :D

That phrase was exactly what popped into my head when I discovered what the little bird was.

I must note, however, that the 1940 movie "My Little Chickadee", starring W. C. Fields and Mae West preceded me be a couple of years. :P

Since it was relatively warm here in North Texas today (62°F), I put down the top on my Mazda Miata, put a camera bag on board and headed out to enjoy some "spirited driving" on some of my favorite twisting back roads. Along the way, I stopped in the small town of Pilot Point,TX. One the its claims to fame is that in 1967, a part of the 1968 movie "Bonnie and Clyde" was filmed there.

According to the Texas Film Commission, "Pilot Point Town Square was the location of the famous bank robbery scene in the 1968 movie. After a series of amateur heists, Clyde Barrow (Warren Beatty) and Bonnie Parker (Faye Dunaway) lead their first bank robbery as the Barrow Gang alongside a gas station attendant (Michael J. Pollard), Clyde's older brother Buck (Gene Hackman) and his wife, Blanche (Estelle Parsons)."

Here's the bank today that was in the film and an image from the movie itself.

Not being a social media user, I had to look this up.

It can mean;

Laughing my arms (or ankles) off.

or

Lick me all over!

I don't think its the 2nd one.

You're right but think of something below the arms and above the ankles. :P

Mother Nature has provided North Texas with a gentle reminder of last February's sub-zero blast...only below freezing temperatures this time, a little snow but mostly sleet and freezing rain.
