For touch up I would recommend Lightroom. My 70+ mother needed something to edit her product photos for Etsy. She knows nothing about Photography and I gave her 1 hour of training and an old copy of the desktop version. She is able to use it to manage and edit her photos.

Nice thing about Lightroom is it both manages your files and allows for limitless editing. Nothing you do in the photo is "baked" in until you export it.

First off... Welcome! I am also a fairly new D850 owner. Had mine for almost two months. I started with the 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 and after a month I returned the 24-70. I found I was only using either 24mm or 70mm with a smattering in the 50 range. I bought the 24mm 1.8 Nikkor and 45mm 1.8 Tamron (with vibration compensation). Initially I was a bit nervous... I mean I have SEVERAL mm not covered by lenses! Lol but I really like the combo. I think it really depends on what you shoot. A good test is to go through your photos after a while and see how much variety you have in what you shoot.

For me it's about putting the investment in where I shoot the most.

Ok, go for the D750 with a grip as it won't force you to upgrade the
computer end of your investments. It is a very capable camera — I
recommend it to all my students.

The "no compromise" bit should go towards the lenses.

 

That is good thought... I hadn't thought about processing power for the higher res. My current workflow goes through my Ipad. I import there use the Lightroom mobile for sorting and quick editing then upload to the cloud and pick up on the PC. I don't how my IPAD PRO 2 is gonna feel about the higher res... my current camera is 18 megapixel and it handles them great but jeesh 48 might bog it down. I don't have too many concerns from there my laptop can handle the rest. It's definitely capable. 

 

Yep I agree about good glass. I feel kinda lost with all the choices available for the Full Frames. Like in MFT set up it's easy... go get the Panny Leicas and you are done! Now there is a lot to choose from. If there were one starter lens someone should get what would you recommend?

 

I can't give an actual model recommendation but I do the kind of photography you are looking to do right now. I can tell you if you are looking to do night photography, or long exposures make sure they the manual settings on the camera easy to access and use. My $500 bridge camera has you access a menu to change the shutter and iso and the controls are very tweaky. Shooting long exposure is not something you do on auto trust me! When you look at a camera make sure you can identify how you set shutter speed and iso before you buy it. If you can look in a store hold the camera and set these a few times.
