I have always run the battery completely down before changing. When I am shooting and it runs down I swap to the spare. When I get home I charge the battery and put back in the camera bag. I read it is not good to fully charge a battery and store it? My D850 has a feature in the menu that will show the precentage of life and the age of battery. I had run down the battery that came with the camera and swapped to the spare. It ran down in 2 weeks of working in the menu while reading the book and testing. When I was going to swap to the original charged battery, I mistakenly put the charged battery in the charger. It had blinked about 2 times when I realized my mistake, I swapped the batteries putting the charged on in the camera. I do not know, but have assumed the charger was draining the battery before / while do the re-charge. Do not know if that is true, but even if it is , only 2 blinks should not do much drain. When I put the recharged (sitting for 2 weeks) in the camera I checked the percentage, 94%, so it drained 6 percent over a 2 week period? So in a months time it could be in the 80%. For me I would not like to leave a dead battery in the bag and chaged the day of needed. I want the spare to be ready when I have a chance to go take pictures.
Also the top display never goes off on the D850, I realize that screen does not use much battery , but I am sure it will over time. Do not see a way to turn it off when the camera is turned off.
How do you maintain you batteries?
Thanks
Michael
