As a suggestion, would it be possible for those posting photos to give some detailed info re: shot " shutter, aperture, iso, lens and camera used, as a learning tool.

Nikon products are great ! I am sure, along the way (or highway, for you  :D), you'll be drawn to upgrade or find new and more powerful cameras.

raw+jpeg is a good choice across the board esp with post editing.

Rechargeables (NImh) also last me well.  I am not a heavy user but they do the work pretty well.
