#59753 Orion over Honolulu

Posted by Fletch on 14 January 2019 - 04:23 AM

Orion Constellation over Honolulu on 11 January 2019 at about 7:51pm HST. Obscured by the darkness is Diamond Head Crater. Shot at 15sec exposure, 400iso, 16mm, F7. This is a 10 image stack using Sequator. As usual I forgot to take a refocused shot of the foreground hence the slightly out of focus buildings.

Paintshop (JASC) was taken over by Corel, the newest version is Paintshop Pro 2019 iirc.  The ultimate used to include the Topaz Labs bundle but I guess that it was to popular because in the 2018 and newer version they are a paid addon. The base version sells for around 79usd iirc and the ultimate around 100usd but they have frequent sales and you can get them cheaper.

Fletch, I have a very old program called Paintshop Pro 6 (JASC Software) it has some nice features but I don't think that is what are talking about...

I use Adobe DNG converter as I still use CS5 in addition to Paintshop Pro.  The DNG converter is very easy to use and does not take a long time to do the conversion. All you have to do is select the folder the photos are in and choose the destination folder (same one for me) and the name for the files, (I use the default *.dng), and then hit convert and let it do its work.

I still use the older CS5 due to the superior RAW converter compared to Paintshop and the Spot and object removal tools which are also far superior to Paintshop. All my other editing I do in Paintshop as I find the menus and features easier to understand and follow.

You can get around this by converting your raw files to DNG using either Adobe's or a third-party DNG converter but it is a hassle.

The only current PP application that still comes on cd is Corel Paintshop Pro AFAIK.

2 image stack, Shot in AP at F16, 1/2Sec, @ 16mm, 0.0ev, 100iso, CPL filter.  Processed in Paintshop Pro to reduce highlights only.  (I thought I was shooting RAW but was in jpg, rolls eyes at stupid mistake)

#59481 https fstoppers com education one-minute-tutorial-creating-natural-saturation...

Posted by Fletch on 31 December 2018 - 12:28 PM

I found this on FStoppers and thought I'd share it with you all.  I haven't had a chance to try it myself yet.

Got a minute? This awesome tutorial will show you how to easily add a nice pop of saturation to a landscape photo in record time using Photoshop.

Coming to you from Unmesh Dinda of PiXimperfect, this great, quick tutorial will show you how to add extra saturation pop to your images by creating a saturation mask. This technique relies on using the HSB/HSL filter in Photoshop in tandem with the channels dialog, which allows you to very quickly and easily create a selection based on the saturation of the greens, which you can then convert to a layer mask for a corresponding saturation adjustment. And the coolest part is that because the mask is taken care of for you, you don't have to worry about trying to carefully work around leaves and avoid the sky or things of that nature; it's remarkably quick and easy. And just remember that like any adjustment of this nature, it's easy to go overboard. I recommend stepping away for a minute or two when you're done with an edit and coming back with a fresh set of eyes so you know if you need to dial down the opacity just a bit.

Ummm it's leaning to keep the water in.  lol

Thanks but actually there's a few things wrong, the original the banding lines were very visible and even after editing faintly so.  The perspective of the photo is off completely, it's actually more bowl shaped, but in trying to correct it the buildings leaned left and right from the center, and the WB was tweaked the original break water and DH were very dark. When I have time I am going to try again on these photos.

#59382 SnapBridge and Ads on SmartPhone?

Posted by Fletch on 27 December 2018 - 01:14 AM

I only recently switched from my old Canon 5D and 40D to the 5600.  I was no longer interested in lugging around a boat anchor all day and wanted a small yet capable light weight camera.  I choose the D5600 for that reason.  I mostly use the App when I am "trying" to do Astrophotography as I don't have to touch the camera. The 5600 does have an intervalometer function built in but I have not learned how to really take advantage of it yet. One of these days I need to take a class.

I am surprised you have been using the SnapBridge for only six months?

I haven’t had any ads or any kind of pop up yet and I’ve been using it I guess about six months now.
