In Topic: Has Anyone Tried Triggertrap on their Nikons?

21 March 2018 - 10:11 PM

I have used the CamRanger and SnapBridge my initial impression is not super positive. I have found that simplicity is highly underrated. The built in feature of the Nikon like ( Exposure delay mode & EFCS ) provide everything I need for wireless remote and reducing transmitted vibration. I put these items in MYMENU and have activated with the Fn2 button. The SnapBridge also thru Bluetooth drains the battery.

I must admit I have only used these two above mentioned apps  2-4 times. So far I have not needed to send/share my photos with others on the spot.

In Topic: Wireless triggers.... what are people using?

I have Nikon D850 with many Nikon SB-xxxs and have made the switch to Godox flashes. They are excellent value. 3 V860iis and a AD360ii. I have the X1T-N and the XPro-N. Both work every time so far in the house everywhere. Two caveats:

  • The Xpro has a bigger screen and is a little easier to navigate but it does not automatically go into HSS when the camera goes past normal sync speed. Unless the transmitter is set to HSS the camera will not go past sync speed.
  • The X1T auto detects when it needs to switch to HSS mode. The bad is the menu navigation takes a little getting use to, but I suspect I'll get past that soon.

So far I have only used them like 6 times. Also I have to keep an eye on the battery life--yet to be determined.

Another plus is all of the Godox flashes (speedlights and studio) have built in receivers so extra purchase their and total compatibility. But receivers are available for non-godox flashes-about $40 each.

In Topic: Fire off-camera remote (sb-700) but not on-camera (D3200) master

21 March 2018 - 08:30 AM

Off camera flash for your D3200 can be controlled directly from the camera:

Goto the

Custum Setting Men>

Bracketing and Flash>

Flash control for built in flash>

Commander mode:

Now pick you options and set group

Now what you have done is make your popup flash a master and your sb-700 or any other sb- flash in the group a slave.

You can also put a little  attachment that slides onto you flash shoe to blocks any flash light from popup if you only want the off camera flash. You can also set the popup to 1 of 3 modes: --  is off, M is Manual, TTL.

The Nikon SG-3IR IR Panel attaches to the camera's flash shoe, and covers and prevents the camera's built-in flash from influencing the exposure, while still permitting its use as a Commander for off-camera Speedlights.
