Off - Colour on one day's shooting?

26 September 2020 - 03:48 AM

I struck an unusual problem on a day trip to Marble Bar (Western Australia) recently.

All the photos I took on this day had an odd bluish tinge to them which I was fortunately able to correct with a bit of Photoshoppery. The before and after shots are below and after correction I finished up pretty close to what my eye saw.

The colours were the typical Australian palette of red dirt and bight blue sky and on the days before and after, shooting under similar lighting conditions the results were fine.

This shot was taken with my Nikon Coolpix B700, ISO 100, shutter speed 1/1,250 andf aperture of F3.5

Hoya Polarising Filter Incompatible With Nikon B700?

17 June 2020 - 07:52 PM

I think I have just made an expensive mistake by buying a Hoya circular polarising filter for my Nikon B700, hoping to improve my landscape shots.

The salesman screwed it into the camera over the existing U.V. filter and it fitted well. On my first experiment with it I discovered that the two filters together resulted in the corners of the pics being rounded off. I removed the U.V. filter and tried it with the Polarising filter alone.

While I was turning the filter it suddenly came unscrewed and dropped off. I was annoyed with myself and screwed it on again, discovering that the threads on the filter are so short that I barely get one full thread in the camera and the slightest pressure after that in either direction will cause the filter to pop off again.

Naturally, the drop distorted the rotating part and marked the black finish of the filter so that it no longer turns freely, compounding the problem and preventing me trying to return it.

Is there a brand of polarising filter which will screw in to this camera securely?
