In Topic: Officially, I'm a Togger

28 September 2020 - 09:02 PM

I like birds but would not describe myself as a "birder".

However, i love trying to photograph them as it can be a real challenge with what are usually very uncooperative models.

An interesting point about birds and some reptiles is that their colours often disappear in low light because the colour in their feathers and scales is actually refractive rather than reflective which is why gaudy birds often seem to disappear under foliage and their colours change under different lighting angles.

Personally I admire the dedication of serious wildlife photographers who often lie around in camouflage gear for hours with their huge lenses and costly cameras waiting for that perfect shot.

In Topic: Off - Colour on one day's shooting?

27 September 2020 - 06:03 PM

I shot everything that day in JPG with the camera in "auto" mode which is how I mostly shoot holiday pics. White balance was in the default setting which worked just fine on the days before and after that one.

For a couple of the shots I did use a polarising filter but these came up with the same odd colour cast.

I will try to find the exif data - the last attempt did not end well.

In Topic: Hoya Polarising Filter Incompatible With Nikon B700?

21 June 2020 - 11:32 PM

Yep, dead right. That is exactly the same as mine. The U.V. filter, which is a cheapie Kenda from the Philippines has a couple more turns of thread than the Hoya and screws in quite firmly. The Hoya also screws quite securely into the Kenda filter which has a  continuous thread but stacking them causes vignetting so that is a no-go.
