#18341 Cannot Display This File

Just a quick point if you are downloading your files from your Camera to NX2,I take it  you will be downloading via Nikon Transfer 2, next time you download go into Nikon Transfer 2 window select preferences and check the delete files after transfer tick box is not selected,

If it is as soon as a transfer is complete, the program will automatically delete the files on your memory card

Use the NX2 you received with the camera, that way you can learn it and decide if you want to upgrade later. If you take a bit of time on NX2 to learn, it does have some good features, if you start adding plug-ins it can be quite a powerful, fast and easy to use system

Photoshop is expensive most Photographers who buy it never ever actually use a fraction of what this program is capable of,

Elements  gives you a lot of the features you will find in Photoshop without the hefty price tag, its the same price bracket as lightroom, also some good features and is a lot easier to use

Lightroom. you either love it or hate it...Personally I am  firmly in the later.

#14928 One lens

I purchased a secondhand Nikkor 24-70 f2.8, because I needed one at short notice, it actually wasn't that expensive, but I use it all the time especially in the studio, it even has a micro capabillity, but its a really sharp much underrated lens

Sigma are not the sharpest pin in the box, you can get away with it on some  DX cameras, on a full frame. no way, (if you really want to throw the focus out put a U/V filter on it,)

I had this lens for about two months and got shot of it, Sorry but taking a high end camera and putting a budget third party lens is never a good idea

I don't use a D600, But one thing I have noticed with some nikon hotshoes, both with flash and remote triggers, over tightening of the flash unit  on the camera mount, can actually lift the contacts away from  each other.....Just saying

#13138 if you could start building your kit bag again, what would you buy?

Invest your money in Good quality Glass, Camera Bodies get upgraded at a horrendous rate. you camera will be outdated in a few years, the lenses you buy can last you a lifetime

Just point out that, even on the Nikkor Micro lenses, you will find Manual focus is the norm,

#12038 Saving in RAW + JPEG

Posted by AJSimpson on 29 December 2013 - 04:34 PM

I would suggest buying an independent hard drive for storage of Raw images, there are cheap so it might actually be worth buying two and use the second one as a back up unit.

I shoot for magazines mostly fashion,  I download all images from any shoot into the main frame, then back the whole shoot onto two separate hard drives  .I only every shoot raw, as the jpegs are created in the processing, Its a matter of choice but I only use 4g memory cards, during any shoot I change cards frequently, that way should one memory card corrupt, I still have most of the shoot on the other cards, once all the images are downloaded and verified and backed up, then the memory cards are formatted in camera.  When the required images are edited and downloaded to the customer, I will delete the whole file from the main frame, keeping the disc space as free as possible, for the next shoot.
