SDHC card formatting issue in Nikon D5100 in combination with Windows 10

09 November 2017 - 03:29 PM

Hello all,

I have a weird problem with my memory card. It is a SanDisk SDHC 32 GB card.

When I insert the disk in my camera (Nikon D5100)  the following things happen

1. I get a message saying that the memory card isn't formatted.

2. I format the memory card inside the camera.

3. I am able to take pictures.

After the session is finished, surprisingly the memory card which is recognized by the camera isn't recognized by my computer anymore! I use a Windows 10 OS. The card is detected in the device manager as a drive. But the drive has no letter on it. So it is not recognized by the file explorer. Thus I cannot see my images on my Windows 10 PC.

After that I have to insert the memory card in the Macbook where it detects the SD card without any problems. I transfer my pictures and then through the formatting tool of the macbook, reformat my SDHC memory card into a exFAT format.

Now this newly formatted, empty, SDHC card is recognized by windows 10, but again is not recognized by the camera when I insert it for round 3

It seems that I am stuck in this loop.

Any help regarding this issue?

Regards,

Debayan
