#29934 D610 x250 HELP

Posted by greenwing on 04 February 2015 - 09:46 PM

I think x250 is at the end of the shutter speed scale. Did you try turning the dial in the opposite direction? The speed should go through time and/or bulb before getting into the real speeds at 30".

#28323 Would you let them shoot your wedding?

Posted by greenwing on 06 November 2014 - 12:47 PM

You know, the 'I can't spell but I'm cheap' aspect didn't strike me until now. The leaflet is 1/3 of A4 (I'm sure there's a name for that), displayed in a rack which would hide the price.

I looked at the website, and found that the photograper has an Eastern European name,  which might mean that English is not his first language. That is no excuse for a badly spelt flyer, though, surely someone else saw it before it got onto the press?

On another note, the website seems to have about 100 photos for each wedding, engagement, christening etc. that the photographer has done. Is this normal, or acceptable, or what? I'm not criticising now, just would find it starnge that all my event's pictures were there for all to see.

#27996 Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD lens

Posted by greenwing on 21 October 2014 - 11:30 AM

Been waiting on stock arriving in the UK since April (for my Canon 6D rather than my Nikon D610)! Still can't find any stock and don't want to "pre-order" from WEX as this will tie up capital on the credit card with no idea when I will actually receive it.

Amazon UK have some for Canon.

Nice shots, Tbonz.

And a bit of understanding gained for 'Daydream Believer' :D

#27573 D7000 Raw+Jpeg

Posted by greenwing on 05 October 2014 - 10:20 AM

Nikonite, I don't think you've understood the OP's problem.

I don't think the 'problem' is with the app, more with the way the camera works. If you have raw+jpeg on one card, you only see one image when reviewing them If you put raw and jpegs on separate cards, you see both when reviewing them. Not that it should make much difference, tbh. NEfs show an embedded jpeg which should be very similar to the jpeg that is shown..

Can you store raw+jpeg on one card and still just save the jpegs over wifi?

#27356 D5100 all photos washed out

Posted by greenwing on 30 September 2014 - 10:42 AM

There is no clipping in the 'before' image. Clipping has been introduced in the 'After' image.

Chris

Hi

Seems every photo I take with my 5100 is washed out, low and high levels clipped.  Must be a setting somewhere I have set wrong. Does not matter if it's JPEG, Raw, etc.  See examples link below OR attached before/after images.  Notice the high and low levels clipping in the before image.

BEFORE ADJ: attachicon.gifBeforeAdj copy.jpg.

After ADJ: attachicon.gifAfterAdj copy.jpg

Any ideas?

#26841 Tethering with the Nikon D7100.

You could try Control My Nikon or Helicon Remote. I think both have free trials. As for the cable, that should have come with your camera.

#26084 Every third picture has different exposure/ Not focusing on infinity

Posted by greenwing on 01 September 2014 - 03:59 AM

Sounds like you've managed to turn bracketing on without realising, and you've got 2-stop intervals. (1/60 - 1/250 - 1/1000). Odd that you have 2 dark exposures, I didn't know the D5000 could do normal and 2 under. Maybe you've got some exposure compensation dialled in too, or the meter was confused if you're shooting into the sky. I can confidently say that it's nothing to do with the battery.

Focussing on a small target against the sky can be frustrating, and I think that's all the problem is.

One from a visit to Flamingoland in North Yorkshire. The big chap in the front looks quite happy, compared at least to his smaller companion...

#25724 Brandy anybody?

Posted by greenwing on 20 August 2014 - 10:07 AM

Now I understand. Good point. Thanks

Eagle

PS. May have to have another glass of brandy tomorrow night.

Cut the foil before you consume the brandy. Trust me, I know these things. :D

#25655 Non Nikon battery

Posted by greenwing on 18 August 2014 - 09:59 AM

I think that Nikon released a firmware update for the D3200 (probably related to a newer model of battery?) that stopped existing 3rd party batteries from working.

#25318 Setting the center point

No disrespect to anyone here. The image is pretty good, but I'm buggered if I can see any snow :)

We're way off the original topic. Anyone care to open a more appropriate thread?

#25216 Setting the center point

Posted by greenwing on 04 August 2014 - 12:40 PM

The D3300 and D5300 (and their predecessors) don't have a lock for the focus point. All other current Nikon DSLRs have a lock around the multi selector. Put the focus point where you want it, and then lock it with that ring. Interestingly, it only locks the focus point. The multi-selector still works for its other functions.

I work the way Peter describes - compose, select focus point, and shoot. Checking that the focus point is where I want it is part of my workflow (such as it is). But then I'm not a world class photographer.

#24985 Editing mini-challenge, week ending 3 August

Posted by greenwing on 29 July 2014 - 03:22 AM

I thought the straight conversion (using Capture NX-D) looked a little too cool for an autumnal scene.

DSC_4755.jpg

So I changed the white balance to Shade and the Picture Control to Vivid.

DSC_4755_0_shade_vivid.jpg

While I was at it, I saved versions 1 stop over and under exposed. I fed those into Photomatix, processed with the Soft preset (iirc). The result was subtly different :+

DSC_4755_+1_Shade_vividAnd2more_tonemapped.jpg

I took the result into Paintshop Pro, masked the leaf & berries using Topaz Remask, and reduced the brightness of the background. A small border and voila.

DSC_4755_+1_Shade_vividAnd2more_tonemapped_layered.jpg

For fun, I fed that image (minus the border) into Dynamic Auto Painter, used the Watercolor preset with the Aquarmarine palette. I quite like the result (otherwise I wouldn't be showing you).
