#71120 Nikon 50mm AF-G f1.8

Posted by Tansy on 12 December 2020 - 12:39 AM

I like a 50mm lens. Many, many years ago when I first started out, Nikon were selling a 50mm ridiculously cheaply. It felt like one got it free for buying the lens cap so I got one. It became a fast favourite. I removed the 'standard' zoom from the camera and had that all the time unless I was taking flowers when I'd switch to micro. I'm sure you'll love it! And it's nice it's found a good home. Too much, much loved stuff gets disposed of when people die.

Yes, a good tool. The only reason I did not get that one is
that it has only 7 blades… for my work, I prefer 9 blades.
All my bodies are FX while yours is a DX and that means
this lens will act as having the AoV somewhat smaller.

Have a good time! :P

#66702 50mm E Series F1.8 Lens

The 50/1.8 Ai is easier to use with red dot refocusing as the throw is longer. It has the same coatings and the same lack of hot spots with IR.

The early Series E works just like the chrome ring version.

The red dot is for adjusting the focus for the wavelengths in the IR spectrum. You focus as usual and then you adjust the focus ring so that the value that was at the normal line is at the red dot instead.

You could have googled that one…

Yes, a F mount!

If it is the Nikon version, yes. They were made for other mounts as well.

#63389 fEE Problem

The D7xxx bodies and upwards have lots of user-settable parameters to optimize the ergonomics for the user.

The one you need now is Custom function f6, page 233 in the manual.

If the lenses that misbehave have aperture control rings, they work as designed. On the D7000, the aperture ring must be set to the smallest value to let the body control the full range of apertures. The reason is that the aperture ring stops the aperture at the set value, which means that the control coupling doesn't have its full range as it can't close down more.

If you want to use the aperture ring, there is a custom function to do so.

#63365 Light Meter

They are still the best solution for complex flash lighting as it is possible to measure the balance between two strobes. Another situation where they still shine is for landscape use using the zone system. They aren't necessary in either case, but the right meter for the job *can* make life easier.

Can I ask does anyone use a light meter with there equipment.

I do but only in studio…
though it can be done without when tethered.

Would one of these give a more accurate figure than the camera?

Yes but, with modern DSLR, rather decimally in
any circumstances.

#61167 ND Filters & Lens

The wider the focal length, the more possible issues with ND filters. But you can certainly use one filter on both lenses by purchasing the larger filter and using a step up ring with it on the smaller lens.

You realize you can zoom in on LiveView using the +/- buttons.

When I use live view on my 750, I use the zoom button to ensure focus, and yes, I war glasses as well.

I thought so, but I wasn't sure.

Hyper program is Pentax

#60120 Info on P & P* Question

P* is a mode that was introduced on the F801/N8008 film body. I think it was called Hyper Program, or maybe ProgramFlex (One was Nikon and one Pentax and I don't remember which was which) then, but they seem to have dropped the name for it in later years.

The asterisk is a warning that the user has chosen to go up or down on the aperture/shutter speed ladder from the camera program value.
