A few photos of a 250,000+ bat colony in Huntsville, Texas. This is an incredible thing, and I've linked a short article below. I need some help. As you can see, the bats aren't in focus. I shot twice, once trying single point focus and once in 3D. The bats are so small and so fast that the building is what gets picked up, and the bats are never sharp. Even shooting into the sky they're not sharp, even teh few I shot with flash. Used a Nikkor 55-200 and auto ISO. Best fix I can think of is to go to Liveview and focus manually on the bats I want to shoot. I can get close so I'm going to try my 50mm 1.8D lens also. Any other tricks I can try?

Taken in Huntsville, Texas once it stopped raining and we could get out. With the exception of the storm chaser vehicle they were taken at Sam Houston State University or the Sam Houston Museum.

Can't say what I really think about Harvey since we have language restrictions here. We're safe. Raining where we are but OK. Not sure how our house is since the county was evacuated and they have road blocks up to keep anyone from coming in, Including news crews. Have seen some social media videos, doesn't look horrible so far. Might be a week before we can get home, not sure. Never seen anything like this storm. Wish I had photos, but we didn't have time.

I know we have some other Texas folks on here, seems like a couple were near the coast or Hill County, which is supposed to get truck load of rain. Everyone else okay?

Kim and I went to our first roller derby bout (yes, they are apparently called "bouts") Saturday night. Took my camera. We got there just as it started so no time to check lighting and of course had to shoot with no flash. First time I've ever had to shoot ISO that high. Wish I'd read up a little on auto-ISO before, I think it might have helped. Good time, good learning experience. I still need to learn how to crop properly ha ha. Any tips or critiques, feel free.
