Been so crazy around here we haven't been getting out to shoot much. We did a Painted Churches ride in Schulenburg, Texas last Saturday and I threw camera and a couple lenses in the Miggo. If you're ever in Texas, these are beautiful. Peter, Deano, et al if y'all ever get down this way we'll go for a ride. D5500 w/50mm Nikkor f/1.8D lens.

Playing catch up. From the Painted Churches ride Kim and I did in Schulenburg, Texas September 30. Like Sunshine, I had to deviate from the single lens for a couple of wide shots. This was one.

Okay, added one more because it's the only other I shot with this lens and I have no other place to put it!

#51280 Help with shutter priority mode

Posted by Cjtamu on 25 September 2017 - 07:56 AM

I noticed in your welcome post that you also have a D3200. For future reference, it might be a better choice for this kind of shot because most of the lenses for that camera will allow a much smaller aperture than the f/8 on the P900. That said, 0.5 second shutter speed in bright light is probably still going to require a filter.

#51165 Hurricane Irma

Glad to hear y'all come through okay. Still getting back to the new normal here. Just got back into my office yesterday. No significant damage to our building. But, we're in the Energy Corridor, which was one of the hardest hit areas of town. Wiped out all the ethernet in this part of town, didn't get it back until Friday. Crazy.

Stepped outside Saturday morning. Fog was beautiful rising in front of the barn on property next to us. Grabbed my camera, which immediately fogged up in the humidity. Used cell phone and a little post processing and voila!

Shots from last Saturday's ride around post-Harvey Houston. Art work shot at Smither Park. Local artists are constantly adding to it, great place. Stainless entry way at McGovern Centennial Gardens in Hermann Park. All with D5500 and Nikkor 18-55mm.

#51052 Your Best Photo, Week Ending 10 September 2017

Posted by Cjtamu on 10 September 2017 - 08:39 PM

Did an urban ride with some friends in Houston Saturday morning. First time we've really been into the city since Harvey. Couldn't bring myself to shoot any photos of the devastation and suffering, everyone has seen enough. Went looking for beauty instead. On the way back we rode past a guy in his driveway working on an HO scale train landscape for his godson. I liked this shot with his miniature buildings silhouetted against Houston building/rebuilding in the background. Nikon D5500 w/ Nikkor 18-55mm VR @ 42mm. ISO 400, f 6.3, 1/400s. Will post a few more from the ride in single lens when I get a chance.

#50980 Bats

Posted by Cjtamu on 06 September 2017 - 08:05 AM

A few photos of a 250,000+ bat colony in Huntsville, Texas. This is an incredible thing, and I've linked a short article below. I need some help. As you can see, the bats aren't in focus. I shot twice, once trying single point focus and once in 3D. The bats are so small and so fast that the building is what gets picked up, and the bats are never sharp. Even shooting into the sky they're not sharp, even teh few I shot with flash. Used a Nikkor 55-200 and auto ISO. Best fix I can think of is to go to Liveview and focus manually on the bats I want to shoot. I can get close so I'm going to try my 50mm 1.8D lens also. Any other tricks I can try?

#50979 Things to do When You're Running from a Hurricane

Posted by Cjtamu on 06 September 2017 - 07:37 AM

Taken in Huntsville, Texas once it stopped raining and we could get out. With the exception of the storm chaser vehicle they were taken at Sam Houston State University or the Sam Houston Museum.

#50891 Hurricane Harvey

Posted by Cjtamu on 03 September 2017 - 06:36 PM

We got home about hour and a half ago. All good. Roof intact, no water in the house, no trees down. Lost our trellis and grape vines. Fair trade. So much better off than many. Hope everyone on here is okay.

#50864 What holster bag to get

Posted by Cjtamu on 02 September 2017 - 09:11 AM

I'm in no position to argue technical expertise with Peter. But I have a ThinkTank Retrospective 7 shoulder bag and I love it. So do lots of others. Actually chose it over a Domke. Worth a look if you decide to go with a shoulder bag. They come in different sizes so you can find one that suits what you want to carry.
