#7756 D5300 or D7100

Posted by BonOlgirl on 09 November 2013 - 09:38 PM

Hello loltuna  :)

I'm also wanting to upgrade from the D3000. I recently posted a very similar question. I have gotten a lot of suggestions and information from everyone here. I think I will be going with the D5300. I like the swiveling view screen!

I know....makes for great conversation photos, though!

#6695 Upgrading from D3000 to D800

Posted by BonOlgirl on 01 November 2013 - 10:48 AM

Ya'll have changed my mind. I'm definitely leaning towards the D7100. I have the Nikkor 18-55 and the 55-200 that my camera came with, so I can use those with the 7100. Now, I need to decide what new lens I want next. Been doing a lot of portrait type photography, so I'm thinking a 35mm or 50mm prime...

I think this is a good link to reveiw lenses? And how it performs on each Nikon except I am not sure if they finished testing the D800E model yet? I hope it helps.   http://www.dxomark.c...ra-Lens-Ratings

Thanks for this link Daniel...spending some time there...

Depending on the situation, I have found a bean bag to be useful in stabilizing the camera.

Inspired by Rontography's comment about how everyone else lives someplace cool, here's the challenge:

No matter where you live, find something beautiful, take a pic and post it here...I'll start with one of my pics of a hummingbird pic I took at the hummingbird feeder this summer.

Thanks! I plan to do the same shot any day now as soon as it's clear enough. Been nasty weather lately.

Why does everyone live someplace cool but me?

Nice shot. I like the headlights on the grass but I hate it when I forget that I've changed some weird setting.

I think we all have beauty around us no matter where we live! I challenge you, Rontography, to take a pic today of something beautiful, small or large, where you live. In fact, I might just make that a forum challenge. Thanks for the idea!

#6212 Upgrading from D3000 to D800

Posted by BonOlgirl on 28 October 2013 - 07:29 PM

I've been looking at upgrading for a while now too. The 800 is indeed tempting but unless your willing to spend abut more on glass to make it worth it. I'd buy a slightly cheaper model and invest in some good glass (lenses).
I've been buying glass for the past couple years and now I feel it justified to buy a new body.
But now I'm debating the dirt cheap d600 over 800 as can spend the saved ~£700 on more glass.

I have been hearing from different sources that investing your money in glass is the best way to go. The more I think about it, the more I lean in that direction.

#6030 Time Lapse

Posted by BonOlgirl on 27 October 2013 - 10:06 AM

I'm also very interesting in learning and mastering the time lapse technique. I've been experimenting with the equipment I have...a D3000, my 18-55 lens that came with the camera, a remote release, and a nice study tripod I found on ebay.

So far, I've tried some daytime time lapse with an adjustable neutral density filter I also got through ebay. I just experiment with the settings until I get the results I want. It works best with a wide f-stop and slow shutter speed. Most of the pics I've ended up with are throw-aways, but some have turned out really nice. Did this one the other day.

Mom and Daughter are beautiful. I really like the vignette around them. This would make a beautiful painted portrait. I did one of Gunner a few years ago.

If there were an interest, maybe I will make some lightweight bags with kitty litter and put them in the classified section....
