LCD gone bad, fix or replace?

10 August 2023 - 06:54 AM

Two weeks ago I noticed the LCD screen on my Nikon D3500 had streaks across it and it was a lot darker than normal. A few days later the LCD screen is now completely dark and you can barely see it if you are in a pitch black room. I bought the camera gently used 3 years ago and I have never dropped it or got it wet but I can't say what happened to it before I got it. Nikon quoted me almost $200 to fix it so I decided not to send it off. There is a YouTube video showing how to replace the screen but it looks tedious. The camera only has 15,000 shutter actuations so it has plenty of life otherwise I'm thinking. My husband thinks I should just replace it since we have no idea what other problems may pop up. The LCD screens aren't expensive but I'm just wondering if someone else has replaced theirs and is it worth it. Thanks for the advice!
