#11840 What is Nikons' best FX DSLR for its' price?

Posted by BeerBelly on 25 December 2013 - 02:28 AM

I've just bought a used D600 for $1000 and I can't say enough good things about it.

Can you post a link to the auction for the strap?

I take it you're satisfied with the lens then? Do you have any issues or problems with it? Even the smallest ones?

And you take some wonderful photos with it, but I'm curious what Tamron will be able to release....initial samples look good: http://blog.naver.co...ing/70179201020

#10829 Nikon Df initial shutter count

Posted by BeerBelly on 05 December 2013 - 04:20 AM

I've read reports on other forums that Df have quite a high initial shutter count when purchased...it could be more testing than other models since it's a new product.

#9519 Samyang

Posted by BeerBelly on 19 November 2013 - 02:35 PM

I can share experiences using the 85mm on a Pentax APS-C DSLR. I have to say that for me 1.4 was very usable...by 1.8 or at max 2.0 the lens is as sharp as my current Nikkor 85mm 1.8G. I don't have any samples @1.4 at hand, but can show a sample at F2.0

First is a whole pic and then a 100% crop:

100% crop

I have to say that I don't see how you can get sharper than that. I paid 170€ for mine (used) and never looked back.

I've had the 85mm in my Pentax kit and can't say enough good things about it. Although with Nikon I opted for the 85mm 1.8G since it's quite low cost and a great piece of glass as well. But Samyang is well worth the money.

#7498 Tamron announcing a 150-600mm f5-6.3 VC USD SP lens

Posted by BeerBelly on 07 November 2013 - 08:14 AM

This is a supposed sample at 600mm and f7.1

IF it's for real it looks really really promising...rumors about the price seem to be around the $1500 mark, which again, is realistic imo.

#6839 D7100 high ISO/noise questions

Posted by BeerBelly on 02 November 2013 - 04:27 PM

This is a test shot I took at ISO6400 using a AF 300mm F4 ED.

First the whole image:

and then the 100% crop

100crop.jpg

All that was tweaked was contrast in PP. It looks very usable to me, but you have to understand that getting the exposure right in camera is quite important in dealing with high ISO since any tweaking in PP brings the noise out a lot more than in normal ISO ranges. The shot is also a little blurry since it was 1/160 at 300mm.

#5752 Amazon and Ebay buying experiences

Posted by BeerBelly on 25 October 2013 - 10:05 AM

I've bought and sold quite a few photography related items on eBay. So far, so good. I've bought my D7100 body there, my AF300mm F4, my AF-S 80-200mm without any issues. I always try to chat with the seller before bidding and in case of lenses ask for samples...

I only had one problem with a lens, but the seller accepted the return and refunded me fully.

I actually like the one where whale's breath looks like fire from the sun...it kinda captures the moment really well.

#5306 Prime or Zoom?

Posted by BeerBelly on 22 October 2013 - 02:42 AM

Yes, because Nikon has the best sensors for non full frame cameras! D7100 and D5200 are tops in image quality.

I think Pentax comes close or even gets more out of the same sensor than Nikon.

#4567 What's a secure way to archive photos?

Posted by BeerBelly on 17 October 2013 - 10:38 PM

For cloud storage check out drivepop.com It gives you unlimited space for something like 30 bucks per year. I use it and am happy with it.

Well...it's not exactly priced for the poor man...

#4163 Macro lens

The tampon 90mm macro lens...

This has got to be one of the best typos I've seen :)

Just so I won't be completely off-topic. I think the Tamron 90 and the Sigma 70mm Macros are well worth investigating into.
