Nikon 70-300 AF-P DX VR vs Tamron 70-300 VC ?

31 December 2019 - 06:47 AM

I currently have a Nikon D5300 with the 18-55 vrii kit lens, and was originally considering upgrading to the Nikon 18-300mm VR. I've recently been recommended the Nikon AF-P  DX 70-300 since it apparently is quite a lot better in quality and a lot cheaper than the 18-300.

How does the Nikon 70-300 AF-P DX VR compare with the Tamron 70-300 VC?

Also I read that i'll have to go into the menu if I want to switch off the VR for the AF-P, will I also have to go into the menu to switch from AUTO to MANUAL focus?

Good superzoom/telephoto lens for Nikon D5300?

29 December 2019 - 05:15 AM

I currently have a Nikon D5300 with the 18-55 vrii kit lens and the 35mm 1.8g, and I'm looking to buy a good versatile all-round zoom lens for travelling. I guess I'll mostly be doing street/landscape photography, I know I would be sacrificing the quality of the images but I think I would prefer the 18-300 range so I don't need to keep switching lenses when on the move. My budget is up to around £300 (used) .After doing a bit of research I've been considering these lenses:
Nikon 18-200 vrii
Nikon 18-300
Nikon 70-300 (af-p or afs i'm not sure which one is better)
Nikon 55-200
Nikon 55-300
Sigma 18-300
Sigma 18-250
I also looked at some Tamron lenses but the reviews didn't seem to be very good.
Any suggestions to which lens to get? Or are there any other superzoom lenses you could recommend?
