#85234 Z8 (Z9) Airplane Focus detection when shooting a Rocket?

Posted by fallout666 on 29 September 2023 - 09:08 PM

okay since i live in the area and know about how super heavy in traffic and people being around. your best bet is us the parking lot. since will not have people around you. since that place will be super crowed. and bring long lens into center not good idea since bus have room but not sure how many people will be bring there stuff. the tram aka bus do not have a lot space for hold backpacks and other gear. also rocket launch moved to oct 12 now. do not go by what they post for rocket launches it get change all time. go get the app called space launch scheduled. it will show where all rocket launches for all rockets in world. that bus aka tram will be packed with all sorts of stuff. parking lot best bet if to crowed. unless you get vip to that area. also if down i live in rockledge Fl so if want to make trip up he say hi i can be around. and on 11 oct  will be at soccer game for local college near king center in Melbourne and 7pm game and will be 50min from space center too. if take highway.. all sports free to watch but grand stand for shooting.

Hi, guys. My first post here.

I have an upcoming pleasure shoot at the Kennedy Space Center, October 5, to shoot the Falcon Heavy liftoff from 3.9 miles at the Banana Creek viewing site.

I will be bringing my D850 and my Z8 so I can avoid having to switch lenses in an instant. My question is if you think the Z8 Airplane subject detection autofocus mode would work on a rocket?

I will be able to see the rocket on the launch pad before launch so I will be able to test the static subject with airplane detection on and off, but it would be helpful if anyone has a definitive answer.

The rocket does resemble the fuselage of an airplane without wings, so maybe the camera will detect that. Similarly, I used vehicle detection (car icon) quite successfully a few weeks ago on motocross, so motorcycles are definitely included in the "vehicle" database. It would be nice if rockets were also included.

-----

By the way, on the nikonforums register page, there's no checkbox to choose Z8 as one of our cameras. So it's a bit out of date :-)

You didn't mention what lenses you going to be using, but if you're nearly four miles from the pad, I don't think it would make too much difference. I realize that you'll only have one chance at this though, so I donno. I don't have a Z8 (or D850 for that matter) so all I can do is guess... and drool over your cameras.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Perhaps one of our other members can help more.

--Ron

ron i live in this area unless vip. he going to have issue of kenndy space center super packed. when that rocket goes off whole area shut down do to traffic and other issue. main bridge will be closed off and people will be down the at midnight to get spot to watch it. so all of us1 packed with cars parked along road and main bridge will get closed off too. so no going over bridge at 6am or so.

#85060 can we pin topic on learn or how to shot types oh photo's

Posted by fallout666 on 20 September 2023 - 12:43 PM

would like to pin spot on this forum where people can see and go to when ask question about learning new camera. or new to camera. so we can have post that will say will say these things.

one when you get new camera take look at menu so you can see what menu does.

two when going out to leaner new camera. do some testing with camera. like set something up to do portraits shooting and do different test shots. we give them basic for setting or specs on how to shoot portraits. base on F/4 lens and f/2.8 and F/1.8 setting or specs for it. then we tell them from there you need to adjust your setting or specs if over exposure and under exposure. they can read good starting point. then do same if night time or over cast day.

three do same as for two but other types of shooting like sports landscape and marco shooting. t

by doing this way we give good place read learn from and good starting spot for them. make simple for people find info instead getting bunch of post about new to camera or new to going to full frame or mirrorless. we could also post pictures to go along with them to give example of try of shooting. be helpful to have.

just like mecro-61 said you will enjoy it. now since got camera make sure have fast Cfexpress card you can afford. to get use to camera take it out setup different styles of shooting and do test shot with try out different setting for that style and lean how to adjust exposure on if to much lighting or not enough. more testing of different styles photo will help learn how to use camera better.

#85056 Move from D5600 to D850 learning curve.

Posted by fallout666 on 20 September 2023 - 10:46 AM

i would got with D7200 over D7500. also you have choices if can afford used D750 or D7200 or used D500. D500 and D750 are better option but. D7200 best bang for your buck. i own D7200 and loved it would still be using if not for fact pops got me Z6 and saw the light on full frame. also still have third back camera to Z9 then Z6 then D7200.
