#45075 Your Best Photo, Week Ending 15 January 2017

I live in Florida. In the last 59 years I've seen snow exactly two times, and it melted as soon as it hit the ground.

#45025 nikon 50mm or nikon 35mm which one better

Posted by alden on 14 January 2017 - 05:43 PM

I use my 50mm on a full frame D610 more than any other lens I own. That would be the equivalent of a 35mm on a DX Nikon body.

The second most used is my 85mm, which is close to the 50mm DX. I find I can get decent portraits of people with both lenses, but the advantage of the longer lens is in the distance you can put between yourself and your subject. The farther away you can get, the more relaxed your subject will become thus giving a more natural portrait, in theory.

The advantage of the shorter lens is that it can also be used for landscapes and architectural shots a bit more easily.

OK, Nikon D610 (of course) with my old trusty 50mm 1.8 lens that is about 20 years old. This is from today.

From a design perspective, I like the one you took of the wall plug and lamp base. It's very interestingly balanced by the two elements on either side.

My next lens will be either a Nikon f/1.8 85mm G or 1.4 Rokinon. I hear nothing but good things about both.

Well, I got the 1.4 Rokinon, and it's amazing. Here's an example -- fungi!

I agree with the above opinions. I have a D7100 and a 50mm 1.8 lens (older version - from 2007) and I can get fantastic sharp images with just that lens on that body alone.
